(sabotage)Why 2012 Was The Best Year In Hip Hop For A Decade

Postby King Lance » Jan 8th, '13, 21:37

very long article but I agree 100 % with it.

Do you remember when everyone was banging on about hip hop officially dying out? Well this year truly smashed that rumour out of the park, as we've had crews, beefs, variety and much more to get our teeth into...

"I take yall diss as endearment - I love it when I hear it
Maybe words offensive - free speech I don't fear it
Maybe music can take us to a place so atmospheric
Beyond our greatest imagination, illuminatin' experience
If we open our ears and close our inhibitions, it's clear"

Hip Hop wasn't in a state where it had to be saved, what an absurd statement you just made. Yes he had the best album of the year, doesn't mean you say something as ridiculous as that.

I seriously think that hip hop needed to be saved but not for the reason you guys are talking about :sweating:
Nas, kanye, Eminem are still in the game but IMO, we needed new talents like kendrick, J cole, a$ap rocky and other rappers... rly boring to see the same rappers again and again lol.
Some of these talents didn't compromise on their album and they sold more than 75 % of the other hip hop stars (TI game, nas, rick ross, gkmc is also going to outsell nicki's album etc)

By the looks of this it seems that you only listen to mainstream hip hop, and if so then there's your problem, if you look elsewhere you wouldn't have the problem with uncompromising work. Hip Hop was not dying nor was it dead. GKMC was better for Hip Hop yes, did it save it? no.

I listen to underground artists too but do you know a lot of new uncompromising hip hop albums as succesful as GKMC ?
New succesful hip hop albums have to go pop to be succesful nowadays... it's a shame :(
