I Think Hopsin Is Overrated...

Postby LEVITIKUZ » Jan 19th, '13, 20:48

If you really think about it, Hopsin is severely overrated. First off he has spent most of his time dissing other rappers in his songs and in real life. While his song Sag My Pants is a direct influence of Em's comedic songs, the difference is Em jokes around and doesn't mean it but Hopsin isn't joking around and means every word. What's the point of dissing other rappers like that. I'm not defending Lil Wayne or Rick Ross saying there good but what's the point dissing them. Hopsin has also dissed Lupe. Why would you diss Lupe? Lupe is one of the best rappers alive putting out good music and messages. While people like Nicki & Game, who Hopsin has dissed, aren't the best but we can't say they aren't amazing lyrically. Nicki may put out pop music but on songs like Monster and BoB's Out of My Mind, lyrically she was at a 10. In Monster she renegade Kanye on his own shit and also killed Jay & Ross and was at the same level as BoB. When BoB is at his best and goes off on a track like Out Of My Mind, Am I A Psycho, Beast Mode, and more its hard to hang with him.

Also even though he has songs like Nocturnal Rainbows & Ill Mind 5, he talks about and focuses more about illuminati. Why spend your time rapping about them? He also criticizes and judges other people in Ill Mind 5. Why should he judge about how him or her is living? He's not perfect. Why would you criticize people who smoke weed? I don't smoke weed but I have some friends that do. What's wrong with smoking weed? The reason I don't is that I just choose not to. Hopsin signed Dizzy Wright who is a weed head and yet Hopsin goes off on weed heads. He's a hypocrite.

Do you hear Hopsin talk some deep stuff about himself? He is also talking about others and dissing others. He always says he's the illest but he is just talking his ego.

Lets think of some rappers who have put out nearly as much albums as Hop. I think of Kid Cudi, YelaWolf, Kendrick, and Tyler. All 4 are great rappers and artists because they are diverse. They all can make a deep song, a love song, an energetic song, a party song. They can make music for everybody. Hopsin can't do that. He doesn't really have that much great music. Do I consider Sag My Pants, Hop Madness, or Ill Mind 4 great? No because they are Eminem copycat jokey songs that also diss other rappers. Do I consider Nocturnal Rainbows or Ill Mind 5 great? Not great but truthful. Hopsin speaks the truthful but he still bashes others. The other song of Hops I love is How Do You Like Me Now and I listen to that when I play basketball or work out.

Hopsin may be a great lyrically but he spends too much time and focuses too much on bashing others instead of focusing about himself.

I'm not saying I prefer Wayne or Ross over Hopsin because I don't. I'm just saying that he's really too much of an Em copycat and doesn't do music about himself.

At the time "Sag My Pants" was out, someone NEEDED to tell the truth about Lil Wayne's skill level. Everyone in the industry was too afraid to say the dude wasn't really that good. He had been running around calling himself the best rapper alive so much that people started to believe it. So "Sag My Pants" wasn't Hopsin just dissing people for the fuck of it, it was an attack on an industry that had did him wrong. He felt frustrated because he had been signed and stuck on the shelf, while some of the worst hip-hop of all time was playing constantly on the radio.

The Rick Ross thing wasn't even a real diss, just sort of a jab. And the Lupe Fiasco line wasn't really about the guy's rapping ability, but rather a reaction--as a skateboarder--to Lupe doing what some perceived as exploiting the culture for more widespread recognition and/or financial gain. Hopsin has talked about that a lot, and that's part of the reason he likes Yelawolf so much, because Yelawolf has said a lot of the same things on that subject.

About Ill Mind & Nocturnal Rainbows: look, I'm the last person to back up some dude proselytizing about the evils of recreational drug use, but what he was saying was mostly on point. He was talking about how people are lazy, and that's why they don't make it anywhere. That's with or without the weed. Everything he said in that song is on point, and it wasn't to put people down, but to hold a mirror up to them and let them know that they're fucking up. Does it come off a little preachy? Yeah, sometimes it does. But he's not putting anyone down in those songs, he's telling the truth.

Deep stuff about himself? Hopsin does deep songs about himself. You listen to "Heather Nicole"? He sounds like he's about to crack, and that whole song is just him talking about how fucked up he is as a person. Raw was an angry album, because he had played by the rules for so long that it was finally getting to him. So the emotional side didn't play a huge role? Well, the MMLP doesn't have a single song deeply talking about Eminem's personal life in a deep and emotional way, aside from just being angry as hell. Certain albums are meant to be angry.

BTW, all of those artists you mentioned have put out more music than Hop, save for maybe Kendrick. All but one have a completely different style than him too. You know, Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell records. Why does Eminem? Lack of creativity, probably. I'm not even the best guy to talk about this, because I'm far from Hopsin's biggest fan, but your viewpoint is a little skewed.

Sometimes, I cry at night wishing I could write posts like this.

EDIT: I'll try later. And Hopsin has a lot of songs about himself. Where Will I Go, Heather Nicole, Mr Pillowman, he has some personal songs on GATM too.

Hopsin isn't overrated, he's underrated if anything because every "mainstream" rap fans call him corny while totally ignoring his skills.

I totally endorse this thread.

Revolutionary wrote:LOL! Fuck off you two. I like Hopsin but that doesn't mean being bias towards his status in rap now, he's overrated and held high by his fans for absolutely no reason.

Say my post is dumb or whatever, I don't care. He's far better than a lot of artists but he's nowhere close to being amongst the greatest as some of his fans make him to be.

I'm happy that he's getting more exposure btw, just so you douchebags don't think i'm being a hater.

You don't know what you're saying. Of course fans hold their favorite artist in high regards. That's why Joe Budden is in your top 5 and that's why he's not on someone's who isn't a fan of his. Can you blame them for that? Any fucking stan is overrating their artist.

Hopsin is not overrated since a lot of people hate him on other forums and blogs, but you probably wouldn't know since you only visit TR. On SL and KTT, people think he's the corniest rapper ever and prefer Chief Keef or other rappers like that to him. They hate him.

Basically they're all like Alm, Big M and Accor. Well Alm use to love him so I'd say Big M and Accor. They all hate on him for absolutely no legitimate reasons.

You probably don't understand the term overrated in here. His fans are loyal and they love him yes. The Hip Hop community? Not so much.

Stop making threads about overrated/underrated. It's so fucking pointless. Overrated by who? His biggest fans? Then yeah he's overrated. What about Almostlity and all his haters? Then he's underrated. It literally means nothing.
