Rap in Grammy Awards

I have recently thought about this quite a lot, why can't rap ever be on "Best song of the year" or "Best album of the year" I mean, grammy awards are categorized by music genres, but except for the categories they also have a few 'general' awards that may be granted to music of all genres (Record of the year, song of the year, album of the year, best new artist) and yet I've never seen any of them given to rap music, never saw "song of the year" winner or at least nominee that was a rap song, same goes with all other 'general' awards.

Perhaps there was in the past a nominee/winner of one of these awards who was a rapper?
What are your opinions about it?

I just looked it up and in 2000 the "album of the year" winner was "Two Against Nature"

sorry haha my bad, I've also just realized that TES was also nominated for "album of the year" so there's an exception for eminem in this discussion lol
anyways, does that happen anymore? because seriously, the whole music industry has changed a lot since then (that's including grammy awards, MTV etc..)

You know what, you can lock this thread, sorry.
I just realized how dumb I am.. because maybe there weren't much winners but there were lots of rap nominees. (TES & MMLP nominated for best album, Without Me for best record, and that's still like that as for now because I just saw Love the way you lie + Empire state of mind were nominated for record of the year of 2011, and Recovery for best album)
