Anyone else think Section 80 > GKMC?

Postby TheGoldenSun » Feb 23rd, '13, 01:24

First of all both of these albums are undeniably great. Kendrick just seems to be on a different level and the more I listen the more shocked I am at how fucking amazing he is.

That being said I don't believe Section 80 gets the respect it deserves. Some people don't even know it exists which is sad. HiiiPower, The Spiteful Chant, Ronald Regan Era and Kush and Corinthians in paticular just have that epic feel that is missing from most of GKMC. The concept is much simpler but the songs are better. The production is much more on point and the chorus in paticular are a level above. Plus Section 80 doesn't have any annoying as fuck songs like Money Trees.

I do love both albums though and I was just wondering if there was anyone else who felt the same way.

S80 has some great individual songs but GKMC is overall a better album imo.(and the production on gkmc is for me better by far, actually, I would say that the production was very good)
GKMC is one of the most cohesive albums I have heard in recent years

Didn't really enjoyed S80 as a Whole.

Section.80 beats GKMC when it comes to individual songs, as S.80 doesn't follow a story and Kendrick sort of did his own thing. However, looking at the album as a whole, it's the opposite.

However, I believe GKMC > S.80 overall. The production, concept, lyricism is just a step above from S.80 and I was really impressed by it. That being said, S.80 is still a great album and I recommend it for everyone to listen.

BTW, why do you find "Money Trees" annoying?

I think the production on Section 80 was better than on Good Kid. I don't feel like it was that great on GKMC, actually. Definitely not the best part of the album.

I honestly love both.

Perhaps its just me but I find it aggravating to listen. Kid of hard to explain but the flow he uses on it turns me off.

Also there is a limit to how much I can listen to sentences that end with "ya bish"

regardless that may be just me as many of my firends love it.

Schoolboy Q is going to release his first studio album on Interscope.

I think there will be a few featurings with artists from Aftermath/Interscope because Black Hippy signed to Aftermath.

GKMC is a concept album which had kendrick experimenting with a full story of characters,settings,ect.. The overall sound of GKMC really mixes together in the end for me,so i think for this one it goes to GKMC. BTW, I really feel like I'm the only one that can go back and listen to GKMC as a whole nowadays

na don't worry =p

I always listen to the albums at least once and then, I only keep the best songs but I have been listening to this album at least 20 x lol.

When I think about it, my most played albums are TMMLP, TES, GKMC, illmatic, black star and MBDTF

There are people here that prefer S.80, but I'm not one of them.

Songs like "Spiteful Chant" are actually one of the reasons I don't really like that album.
