The House Of Leaves

Postby Slimm » Oct 21st, '10, 11:15

Just finished it, fascinating. The book totally consumed me at times, the deep and multiple layers woven together by footnotes actually worked.
Basically, it's a manuscript about a house that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. However, the story alters between different storys and characters who all become obsessed with the manuscript. The lay out of the book is also quite unique, it's not unlikely to find pages with only a couple words on them, or times when you have to hold the book upside down. I read somewhere that that gives it both an agoraphobic and a claustrophobic effect which is quite true.

Anyone read it? I'm officially recommending it to anyone who loves books and especially to mczu.

I'm actually reading it now from when you recommended it months ago (idk if you remember, and i only just got it a couple of weeks ago lol). I like it so far, although about the layout - i kind of like it, i like the fact that it's unique, but it's a little annoying when you have to keep going back and forth on different pages because there's two accounts on one page. Idk if that made sense lol, idk how to describe it. But i like the book so far :b:

Ahh dope! You actually listen to slimmy lol. I understand what you mean, I was also quite confused when there were footnotes that made you skip a couple 100 pages but I just followed them and it turned out good.
Do you find the book scary? I did at times tbh.

Lol always Slimmy :shifty: Honestly I don't think i've read that far into the book yet for it to be scary lol, but i'll let you know if I do. This might sound dumb, but i'm still a tiny bit confused on whether or not it's 'based on a true story' lol :p . I'm like 99.9% sure that it's not - but it always refers to it like it is so every now and then i'm like..is it?..haha.

Sounds interesting, props for the recommendation! I'll see if I can pick up this book somewhere.
