For those of you who don't live in Michigan and may have a hard time understanding the impact that the auto-industry has on the local economy check out this article from today's Detroit Free Press. The bail out going before the Senate on Monday is critical to The Big 3 Automakers (GM, Ford & Chrysler). While I fully believe in free market economics the impact that the collapse of our original American industry would have on the nation would be devastating. Yes, I'm biased being from Detroit and living there part-time, but please read the article. It's more than just some old school businessmen who can't get it together to make a change in new times... It's the essence of this once thriving city and the core industry of this nation that hangs in the balance.
The photo above is an ode to the Ford family, which owns the Detroit Lions and obviously the majority of Ford Motor Company. Maybe a bail out can help the team? Nah, probably not.

Why not put a tariff on foreign cars?

Normally I would agree but don't they manufacture military vehicles? Correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't that eventually do us in?

Tariff on foreign cars would drive prices up, make them less of a bargain and the American car industry would see an enormous boost.
