Well, being a successful author could be an achilles heal for a rapper. It takes away all your rhymes about struggle and streetlife. But, it gives you something not many other's have a writing career.

My rhymes aren't about street life or stuff like that, seeing how, as chet pointed out, I live in a pretty good environment. My rhymes are just that, my rhymes. It comes from inside.. I hope you can relate.

Actually I can relate to that, I never write about or pretend to be a gangsta. I'm from a rough neighbourhood in my town, but I'm not involved with any crime or any shit. I write for the love of rhyming and that's it. But, in the rap world, to be really successful, you have to have an angle. You need something somebody can relate to. It just happens to be that, 90% of rappers rap about being from a shit life. It might be hard to connect with a Hip-Hop audience if you were a best selling author . But I think if you were a success as a writer, being a faliure at rap, woldn't be a problem.

I disagree.

I think the two are very closely linked; both tell stories through words.

Therfore i see no reason why you can't do both, as long as both your music and the book fit similiar themes. What i mean is, as an example, if you were to write a kids' book you would obviously not really be able to claim a reputation as a rapper.

Anon... homie, you're way too skilled with words to let anything stand in the way of whatever you want to do. Write a book, write an album, write a business plan. I don't care, as long as you're putting your fingers to the keyboard or the pen to the paper you're on the write track.
