Do You! by Russell Simmons

Postby James R. » Dec 9th, '08, 01:25

The actual title is

Do You! 12 Law to Access the Power in You o Achieve Happiness and Success

but it was too long to fit in the title bar lol.

Anyways I got it a couple days ago for something to read at work, and so far it's not bad. He talks a lot about God, but not so much as God, but as a collection of man's imagination and potential to go wherever he or she wants if they connect with themselves and pursue what will make them HAPPY and not necessarily what will make them the most money. I like that because A.) I hate when people preach God to me (hence my lack of church attendance) and B.) Because it's way more empowering.

Anyways, it's a pretty decent book so far and it's saying things that I've heard before (he tells you that you'll be hearing a lot of things that you've heard before in the beginning of the book), but put into a clearer light I guess you could say. Pretty empowering. Made me really stop and think about taking music more seriously. Maybe something you guys might wanna pick up? I haven't read through the whole thing, and there is a concept of God included in the book so be warned, but it's not bad so far. There isn't really a forum for books and such, so I figured I'd post it here.

Yeah I read on an interview about Russel and his new book a while ago in my magazine and it looked pretty interesting actually. His whole concept he wanted to try to bring in his book seemed pretty good.

i heard about it and been thinking of getting it, but then forgot lol but since you recommend it.. i might consider getting it again. let me know when you finish it, i need to know if it's actually worth buying, cause it's expensive [like $20 here -__-'] and i'm broke as a joke and i don't want to waste money on a book that i'll never read.. or fall off in the middle lol - the thing is that i came across few books like that, the kind of 'motivational' books, but never really finished any of them.. so yeah, just read it quickly and let me know. :b:

Russell Simmons is the creator of Def Jam Recording. He's like 80% responsible for rap being the media monster that it is today

And Yoshi you could probably find it at your library, but I'll try to finish asap and let you know if it's worth the money.
