Just got the PS3, Dont know how to use it :(

Postby LLockhart86 » Dec 25th, '09, 21:40

So. I basically havent played a video game since Final Fantasy 12 came out for the ps2. I stopped playing them cuz I didnt want to play until I got the ps3. Well now I got it and I guess im just behind the times.

Can you connect to bluetooth devices like your cell phone? Or just accessories like headset and junk?

Can you save movies to it from a flash drive, like torrents? If so, what format do they need to be in?

What else? Is it bad to use the playstation 3 for blueray? I heard using the actual blueray can mess up the drive or something? Seems like bull but, thought Id ask....

What are some features that I dont wanna miss out on?

Is there a certain setting for wireless internet to be picked up on? Like , does your router have to have certain encryption settings in order for it to work? WEP vs. WPA? Or is it better to just plug it in with a wire.....

Can the ps3 get viruses? Like, if I download a torrent and it has a virus attached, and I load it to the ps3...will it wreck the OS on the ps3 itself?

Can you play your psp like a controller and watch the games on the screen?

Is HDMI that much better if I have a 720p HDTV? Do I have to set the video settings for the ps3 to 720p so it gets the best resolution?

Sorry so many questions, the only internet I have is at work and it blocks all things game related....

But public forums are a big :y:

thanks in advance for any advice.

You can connect headsets and mics and stuff for the bluetooth, i dont think u can phones.

for Wifi, just go to setting, and wifi haha, itll pick up ur connection, and just press x all the way through, until it says password, then type it in press X, and you should be good to go

Pretty sure PS3s cant get viruses

Not sure about PSP

You should get an HDMI cable. It looks much much better, I had to go the first 4 months on a regular tv, and it looked great, then i got a HD tv and a HDMI cable and it looked amazing.
Never been afraid to say whats on my mind at any givin time or day

since the ps3 can only play a couple of formats i suggest downloading the PS3 Media Server

http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

You run it on your computer and the PS3 will see it through the network. on your ps3 just go to the video menu and if the media server is running it will show up in the list.

it will trans-code live any video format and can run 1080p mkv files perfectly (but that depends on your computers performance)

enjoy

So basically you play movies on the computer and the ps3 picks it up like a live stream? Id read more about it on that site if it wasnt blocked at my work.....

Does antivirus programs block that shit from sending data over the network?
