rap - natural or learned ?

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Feb 7th, '07, 02:48

rap is like football, you can be the best in the world coz your a natural footballer, you can be the best coz you learned yourself to be good :sweating:

anywae what do you think rapping contains more of or how do you see it?

is rapping something you just got ot ave natural to you, or you got to learn how to do it :sweating:

id say it depends who you talk about, eminem is a learned rapper he taught himself how to do it he wasnt natural, but id say 2 pac was just a natural rapper...thats just me though :sweating: and id sya myself i aint natural at it at all, i gots to learn :(

i hate those stupid rap shows trying to teach people how to rap... that's just not gonna work. in hop hop, you gotta have that certain swagger that you can't learn from anywhere else. now just because your'e "born" with it, doesn't make you automatically great, but if you practice enough and hone your skills, then hell yeah, you will be great.

it's like michael jordan. he's the best because not only was he born with it, but he worked his ass off and became the best.

i don't think eminem wasn't born with at least some type of skill. he also learned hell of a lot during his years trying to make it as a rapper, so it's a little bit of both.

the same can go for the other legends in not only music, but sports, movies, etc.

lol i was talking more on the skills side of it, but yeh i ge what you mean

Writing songs was a self taught talent, so thats learned.

But i have a natural talent for rap in general, i was freestyling at 11, 12, 13 and 14, untill i finally started reading the dictionary, and about 3 months later, i was concentrating on writing, i copied others, and tried using famous styles, untill i discoverd my flow.

SO basicly, i guess to put it to standerds, im half natural, half learned

yeh thats what i been by natural, some ppl freestyle without ever written a verse or recorded and you just like...dam,

Well rap is art in a sense, so i cant be 100% sure coz many people see it differently. Its like Drawing, i draw well since i was little, my father and grandfather drew even better, seems like its just been taught to me. But Talent in art comes with understanding, and not everyone has the same mindstate to understand.. i highly doubt that one can have a gene helix with rap integrated into it.

So i don't get the whole "natural" thing. Unless we're talking bout people who just genuinely feel passionate about what they do while understanding it fully. A combination of mindstates.

i was rappin to myself since i was about 11/12 and it came natural.I fink it came natural from listening to some sort of hip hop track each and every day 24-7 having it drummed into my head.

I think you can learn to rap but only to a certain point. When you got it natural the possibilities are endless.

no offense but, everybody who wants to rap is gone say its natural to him/her.

I wanna be enlightened by peoples definition of "natural". From what i read from most rappers its mostly the interest they had, like hearing a song deep in the roots of their childhood, so they got motivated to write, while immitating.

yeh, maybe i should have explained it first :sweating:

but i also think the desire to do somehting can come natulary, like football, when i play CB ( centre back) its just a natural place for me, put me anywere else on the feild im shit but in CB im pretty good, but im only natural to play there i still had to learn how to do it :sweating: fuck it im confusing myself

Like i said everyone has certain 'skills' its about finding them and expanding your success rate at them.We are all born with natural raw skills.Whether it be confidence, accent, writing, imagination, logic, power, will power they are all there in raw form and all help in building your success rate in stuff like rapping, basketball etc etc thats why i said 'i been rappin since i was 12ish....because since then ive constantly tried to expand my success rate while attempting it by building the raw skills i was born wit.

^that sounds more complicated then it is trust me lmao

yeh i get what you mean, like i just have the raw skill to be able to time tackle, i didnt really learn how to im just good at it, but then you got to harness it to make it into somehting, i dunno what id say about rap with me but, i always liked it and i always wrote stupid little things, but i never took it serious and i always been good with words in english just always have been, but i had to try hard and work alot to turn that int being able to right a half decent verse, still learning and still need to do alot of stuff but i know that and dont try to act like i dont, only been writing serious for six months now, been recording serious for like 4-5, so my progress aint to bad :sweating: should be better though

and i get what truemfan is saying and what asp is saying, i shoulda thought this topic through a bit more, meh the things boredom does :sweating:

its a mix of both, you need to have the natural talent somewhere in you, but you also need to teach yourself and learn a lot of things, a lot more than most people know about. It takes a lot more work than its thought to take, at least to get to be amazing at it, I dont know what its like from that point on.
