Help me choose a new phone!

Postby TRshady » Jun 12th, '08, 23:47

I've had a blackberry pearl for about a year, carphone warehouse have contacted me saying an upgrade is due and asking what phone I want. They've told me I can have pretty much any phone that appears on the site: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commer ... /gben-Home apart from the Iphone and N95.

I've narrowed down to these three:
Blackberry Pearl 8120
Sony Ericsson K850i
Sony Ericsson W580i

(the blackberry being the version after mine)

I'm not sure what is most important to me in a phone, so I'm looking for a general opinion of which phone you would choose and why, or perhaps you'd select a different phone from the list?

I'll be calling 'em up and deciding tomorrow so respond quick or forever hold thy breath

i've got Sony Ericsson W580i and i really recommend it. easy to handle, clear menu. big screen, and the colors are great. at this point SE > Nokias, for real. next: high quality pictures and movies, high quality sound. mp3 player. TrackID function [comes in handy sometimes :D], Bluetooth, all the fitness functions - steps' counter and stuff - make it even more cool. :smoking: and the design is pretty sick too. i gotta say - i love this phone.

I ended up choosing the K850i and am glad I did, the phone is incredible.

It's a world apart from The BlackBerry and having had a good play with it, I would honestly put it above the iPhone, mainly due to the quality of the camera which is striking. Where as the blackberry pretty much did it all, it did so poorly. The browser was poor and hard to use with a small screen, the media player was basic and weak, the camera was nothing to shout about and it was generally cumbersome to utilise.

The k850i on the other hand is so much more usable and what I would call the three main functions (camera, media and internet) are executed so well, am shocked at how great the music sounds. Loud, sharp and clear on loud speaker but real atmospheric and deep through earphones; whether this is due to the player or earphones I don't know, but I would certainly put it above the iPod in terms of quality (on which I was using adequate £30 earphones).

The PC suite is also feature packed and a joy to explore, offering more then the Desktop Manager of the Blackberry, which provided little more then backup and restore. Have spent only the past 24 hours playing with this phone but am amazingly impressed, will upgrade from the 2GB memory stick 4gb (maybe 8gb which I've read is supported) and will ditch my iPod and no longer have the need to buy a separate digital camera. Thanks for the replies people
