Now Thats Music!

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Jan 15th, '10, 01:12

ok so i love rap and hip hop in a whole, i love the way hip hip can tranform any genre to hip hop, but nothing else can try be hip hop. to me its the best genre but thats just me.

but there is this other feeling i get, sometimes when i listen to other music, biggest other artists i listen to btw are Bon Jovi, Areosmith And Amy Mcadonald.

i listen to lets say Bon jovi - you give love a bad name

and i think now thats music! the whole band effort the singing the guitar drums everything ya know, its got such a sound to it that hip hop never acheives. do you every get this feeling with songs ?

i think hip hop is great its more than music, but when it comes to classic songs as a whole hip hop will only ever has a couple, since this is a eminem fansite ill say stan is one, but it will never have the..i dont know how to describe it that whole musical expeirence you get when listening to some other genre's.

thoughts ?

i agree
the differance is though that.. :-k
with a song u have more melody..and melodies always move u
sure a rapper dont just reads up sum words, hes got a flow and his own style of delivery so theres melody in it
but when u listen to the song ur talking bout from bon jovi its everything together from the instruments to the way he sings.. imo it touches u more cuz the instruments bring it up to a higher level and the voice finsihes it off cuz it woulda never became such a big song if he rapped over it
its the whole melody that draws u in..its more powerfull then a flow..

Thats what Im talkin about. I love hip hop, but overall....rock is far more emotional. Listenin to Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Def Leppard develops such feelings in me that... Like Bar said, its pretty hard to explain.

Ew aerosmith.. step your rock game up man!! But yeah I agree, rock songs touch me way more than hiphop ever can atm. I also think that most bands are way more talented than most rappers, cause they can actually 'make' music while most rappers just spit words on a beat they dont even make. Yes there are exceptions, there are true musicians out there who are rappers but its a small group of individuals in the rapworld.

Agree with Slimm, Bands have more Musicial Knowldge and usually have more a music background, hip-hop can be used by anyone and yeah because bands ake their own music gives it an edge, there's more passion and work put into it but Hip-Hop is uniqu in that sense, there'll never be a unique genre like it. You see all the Mainstream shit today. Half of it is Hip-Hop insipred. i mean Timbaland was just known in rap until a couple of years ago but now he's working with Linkin Park, Keri Hilson etc...You hear stuff nowadays, it has a Hip-Hop kinda beat to it with some Electro to it with synths and that but like Bar said you can't turn Hip-Hop to any other genre, it'll just sound like a Mashup. Thats one of the main strengths of Hip Hop. Contless classical , soul,Rock and even Techno samples have been used in a new creative way. True, the level of skill in a artist producing all his own beats is different in Hip-Hop and others but Hip-Hop allows that creativity.I mean, if you do a Heavy Metal Song and try to incorperate a Hip Hop sample for example on a chorus, it'd seem like they're trying to do Hip-Hop. Plus skilled MC's can rap over different genres (check out "The War Mixtape Vol 2" by Akala as he covers rock, electro and old rap beats)

but hip-hop has a unique gift for the person and the point of hip-hop is all about expressing yourself on the mic, which people seem to forget and try to profit off (hint: they're in the wrong industry) It has a special pull for kids when they see a mc on the streets talking about situations he can relate to, or storytelling like lyrical poets with the music behind it. The actual music is less important than other genres but still plays a major factor if we like a track but whilst popstars worry about harmonies, mc's need to have delievery, meaningful lyrics, flow, pronoucaiton, a suitable voice and lyrical skill.

But since i love Hip-Hop i'm biased, sitting down and bumping Wu-Tang is always gona be more appealing to me than Bob Marley

in my opinion rap & hip hop as a whole is a more intelligent form of music for artists who enjoy the art of words in movement with melodies...it brings a whole nother part of life to the music industry. i aint gonna lie i grew up on rock, like black sabbath judas priest, queen, metallica, pink floyd, shit like that and you cant even compare music like that to rap

rap is on another level of expression of emotion

while other genres get more intune with like..idk its hard to explain those are just my thoughts

I don´t agree. Just cause lyrics in rock songs arent as 'to the point' as rap lyrics doesnt mean they arent filled with emotion, you just gotta listen to it another way. Sometimes i listen to a song and the lyrics are so deep and usually metaphores that combined with the instruments (where each bandmember put their absolute heart in) it sends chills down my spine. Sometimes the instruments are enough to set the mood and express the emotion that the lyrics are just an extra to tell the story more detailed.

yeh man, im with you, its the overall imput from the band that gets me in so much, im not a huge listener to rock or any other genre but i do listen, and i get a different feeling like..ok this is goin to sound so fucked but, in rap the rapper gives you everything the emotion ect. but when i listen to rock songs or alot of other genre's, the singer is giving me his/her emotion on it, but then sometimes its like the guitar is thinking a different way, example the singer is like "i love you take me back" the guitar sounds like "fuck her she can get to fuck" the drums are like "chill the fuck out" then the piano is like "lets all get along"....yeh very bad metaphor but its like every instrument is puting its imput into the track, and i think that goes down to 5 different people actually writing the whole song, one on lyrics one working the drum pattern one hitting the chords ect. it gives alot more musical feel that rap hasnt reached in many years imo.

like i said, stan, is the best example i can find for hip hop in recent times, were eminem is portaing a character who is potraining one emotion, dido is giving another emotion, then the beat is bringin the dark feel.

i wish more rap was like this, imo thats what truly is dying from hip hop, the musical sound.
