EminemBase wrote:^ Well the most important aspect for me about Relapse and his new mindset....
Is that he's in love with rap again. Regardless of whether you like accent, or the subject matter. Fact is, he's infatuated with rhyming and pushing himself to the limits again. He's hungry.
That's the only thing that matters to me because if he's hungry, he won't stop until he hits it bang on the head and everybody else agrees with him. Definitely not going downhill. On Encore he was formulaic. He sounded bored, like he was going through the motions and just giving us what we expected with the occasional show he could second-guess it.
Now he feels like he's out to prove he's the best again. People who say he's sold out and all that nonsense don't know what the term means clearly. He's doing it purely for the art / sport (if you could call it that) again. And that's a very good thing. For any rapper / artist.
Especially at this stage.
And given his newfound focus and his utter determination to make R2 incredible... Which apparently it already is... I think we will have something special. I mean the fact he said "I'm putting everything I got into this next record".
Em doesn't hype himself or talk shit. So those are strong words coming from him. Everything he's got? Man, I can't wait.
That's one thing I agree with, for once. Eminem is eager to rap again and I'm glad he likes to rap, but he really needs to keep in mind his audience.
We're not people who never listened to Eminem and will be won over by shock value. We got over that in 2000. Perhaps he's expanding his audiences with shit songs like
We Made You, but seriously, I'm not sure if he would know that someone people wouldn't dig the accent. Simple as that.
Take this for example. Take your favorite rap album. I don't care why you like the album, could be creativity, lyrics, or production, or all three of them, or none, but just envision that record. Now imagine the same album with the raps being spit in a voice that resembles masculine (is s/he male anyways?) Elmo sniffing cocaine. Is it good anymore? Technically, nothing changed. Likability-wise, the whole album just went down a little, unless you're looking for a good buzz or just a laugh.
Yeah, some will say that the "accent" fits the "content" better. Then, not only are you insulting the accent, you're insulting the content.
