its A&R contacts, A&R's are basicallt the people who get you signed. you give them your demo.
Dope, but are you saying if they turn you down then its hard to get signed?
no lol if they turn you down it means nothing to you as an artist.
the way it works, is if an A&R signs an artists they are the ones that back the guy put there neck on the lines and tell the label "invest money in him he will be succesfull" and if the artists then isnt succsefull when the label is left out of pocket its the A&R who gets the chop. and if they lose there job that stigma will always be known as "the guy who signed that total flop" so its very hard to have a A&R put complete faith into a artist with no name.
thats why the trend is coming now that producers and artists are getting the licence to sign artists of there own back, because A&R's wont take the change when an artists who has been there themselves will take the chance but its also why so many people have went on labels like aftermath and shady records without releasing anything, because lets say eminem goes "this guy is dope" and signs him, even though he signed him the label managers will never give the go ahead if he isnt succes gauranteed by all the heads at the label so A&R's will be very skeptical to go "yeh he'lll be sick" and let the album get released but also dont want to go "drop him" because eminem signed him and the A&R is like well look at eminem he must see something in him.
A&R are major "on the fence" players on alot of decision coz when they stick there neck out there careers can be gone forever.
