You're honestly not concerned about overpopulation, about Earth being unable to sustain all its life? I don't want to see people suffer, but people have to either start dying more or reproduce less.

When our grandparents (if alive) were our age (assuming you're not old), the internet was a mind-shattering concept. The world we live in looks like fucking Star Wars to them.

By the time we are old (if we get there), there will be all new mind-shattering concepts. Inventions and technology we can not even believe. And if we are not in the process of populating the moon, I'd be amazed. By the time our grandchildren have grandchildren, we will be populating Mars. Our species adapts to crisis, including overpopulation. For now though, were OK.

Space colonization is not in our lifetimes, trust me.
Man as a primitive species had no problem adapting hundreds of thousands of years ago because they were adapting to their environment and nature.
Today, nature is struggling trying to adapt to us.
It's to the point where we're carrying nature, rather than nature carrying us. If we focus on space colonization right now, Earth will be a dead planet far before we can accomplish our goal.

60 years ago, one would tell you cloud computing would not be in their lifetimes. The concept of the internet as we know it would be unthinkable to even the greatest of minds.

60 years before aviation, one would tell you the flight of man would not be in their lifetimes.

We have things we can do to fix our planet, and environmental stability should be one of our country and planet's primary focus. Using the sun as an energy source, and reestablishing nuclear power would be a great start. Once we have access to those types of energy sources (the sun, utilized at full efficiency, can give us all the energy we can ever need), we can focus on proper energy conversion. Giving the entire planet food, water, etc. And doing so without draining Earth's resources.

BUT, the space program is extremely important. Not only is space colonization not that far off, the program makes remarkable and important developments left and right.

I plan on visiting the moon in my lifetime.
