Em's worst verse pre '03

Second verse of The Way I Am is pretty bad.

That whole song is really pretty forced/unfocused, regardless of its popularity among Eminem fans.

His verse on When the Music Stops was pretty weak.

I think most of his verses on Devil's Night are underwhelming.

Watch Dees is one of his best of all time. His delivery is on another level, on that. :worship:

Actually, I'm fairly smart. You, on the other hand, are obviously a full-fledged, babbling idiot.

Take a look at that second verse--it's absolutely awful. Lacks multis, the multis it does have are poorly structured/awkward in placement as it pertains to flow, and his linguistic choices are terrible.

Sometimes I just feel like my father, I hate to be bothered

(Right off the bat...what? To this point, we knew almost nothing of his father. We still don't know much about him. He "just feels like his father, he hates to be bothered?" The line doesn't amount to anything...it's utterly useless).

With all of this nonsense it's constant
And, "Oh, it's his lyrical content -
- the song 'Guilty Conscience' has gotten such rotten responses"
And all of this controversy circles me
And it seems like the media immediately
Points a finger at me (finger at me)..

He's stuck rhyming "me" with "ly" and "me" again.

So I point one back at 'em, but not the index or pinky
Or the ring or the thumb, it's the one you put up

He's out of ideas so he's stuck playing a game of "process of elimination" with us, even though as soon as he said "so I point one back at 'em" we knew EXACTLY what he was referring to. It's excessive and boring.

And again, it sounds horrible because he has to stress the last syllable to force a rhyme.

"pin-KY"...rhyming it with the whole "me" thing from before.

When you don't give a fuck, when you won't just put up
With the bullshit they pull, cause they full of shit too

The bullshit they pull...CUZ they're full of shit, TOO?

They pull bullshit...and it's BECAUSE they're FULL OF SHIT TOO. Make sense?

:shakehead:

The word "too" (which shouldn't be there) is there so he can force a monosyllabic rhyme with "school."

These bars are embarrassing and don't do Eminem's intelligence justice. This is the same man who can flawlessly execute songs like Rock Bottom, 97 Bonnie and Clyde, and Kim.

When a dude's gettin bullied and shoots up his school
And they blame it on Marilyn (on Marilyn).. and the heroin
Where were the parents at? And look where it's at
Middle America, now it's a tragedy
Now it's so sad to see, an upper class ci-ty
Havin this happenin (this happenin)..

Just ends suddenly on "happenin'," which doesn't rhyme with anything until the next bar with "-tack-Emin."

The lyrics don't go with the flow. This is Encore-era type design where he's splitting rhymes between bars in awkward fashion.

Then attack Eminem cause I rap this way (rap this way)..
But I'm glad cause they feed me the fuel that I need for the fire
To burn and it's burnin and I have returned

Again, awkward bar ending. "Rap this way"...doesn't rhyme with anything until we get to "glad cuz they" in the next bar, but it's ineffective phonetically; especially because he takes a long pause before saying the next bar.

I just wanted to chime into to say not every rap song has to have crazy sounding rhymes to be brilliant. Look at Stan.

.

I never know why people never understand this lyric.

"Hates to be bothered" - His father couldn't be bothered with him, that's why he left Em as a kid. I always thought it was obvious.

EDIT: I think why this verse is good is not becuase it has an amazing rhyme technique or becuase it has loads of multies, but becuase it is passionate and it is decent lyrically. You can't judge all verses on how clever they are.

True, but when you have to stress the last syllable of a word over and over again to SHOW listeners the rhymes, your lyrics aren't good.

His father COULDN'T be bothered with him. That's a different meaning that not wanting someone to bother you.

And yet it's not different enough to make it clever wordplay.

you wrote an entire novella about why The Way I Am's second verse, widely regarded as one of his best verses in one of his best songs, is bad. hahahah you're a fucking idiot.

Oh wow, what a great counter-argument!

Since I did see your pathetic attempt to come back in your next post, I'll respond to it here:

You're comparing a HOOK to a VERSE. Game over. You lose.

If you think the second verse of The Way I Am is one of his BEST verses then you deserve to be shot. "WIDELY REGARDED" AS ONE OF HIS BEST VERSES? By WHO?

Prove it, idiot.

Honestly, that's about as dumb as saying that Encore was his BEST album.

Let's flip this around: What is it about that verse that is GOOD, pray tell? What's impressive about it? Why is it one of his best verses?

There, hopefully this post isn't too long for your fruit fly brain's attention span.
