Band

Formed in 1986
Martin van Drunen – vocals, bass guitar
Patrick Mameli – lead guitars
Patrick Uterwijk – lead guitars
Marco Foddis – drums

From

Enschede, Netherlands

Genre

Death Metal

Hard to believe it's 80's music

Seriously, I'm amazed by how well their music has stood the test of time. It sounds as heavy, if not heavier than most of modern death metal.
The talent in this group is astounding, from their complex rhythms to their wailing guitar solos.
Pestilence has some of the best soloing I've ever had the pleasure to listen to.
Easily in my top 3 favorite death metal bands ever.

This is the shit right here

You said you didn't like rock, so you'll definitely hate death metal.

And yeah, death metal, black metal and goregrind is pretty much all I ever listen to.

I check all the threads in the general music section because I try to find music outside of rap that I like. I like some rock.

I'm not trying to be mean or start anything cause I know you of all people don't care lol, I just don't see how this is . . . listenable.

Here's an idea: don't listen to it.
Frankly, I don't see how rap is listenable, so we're even.

And actually I do care, because you're brushing off extreme talent and skill like this music is easy or something.
Well guess what, it's not.
I know.

Think of it this way, if you can get even a little bit used to Eminem's accent, then you can get into any kind of voice.
Man, you just need to experience the magic of a live death metal show.
You haven't lived until you've moshed.

Have you participated in mosh pits? I watched that shit on YT a few months back, but the videos aren't that clear. What do they do, fight?

Are you kidding, I've gone to see shitty bands just to have an excuse to mosh.

There's no fighting, it's all about respect and brotherhood. It's violently slamming into one another, but only to feed off each other's energy.
If someone falls, everyone around that person stops and helps them up.
If someone accidentally elbows you in the stomach, they'll stop and apologize to you.
If someone bleeds, the bleeder keeps right on going and gains his deserved respect from everyone else.
Girls join in too, and the men take it easier around them.
People who try to pick fights get fucked up by either the bouncers or the other moshers, and get thrown out.

There's also circle pits, in which a moving circle of moshers is made with clear space in the middle.

The "wall of death" is when the whole pit divides in two on either side of the venue and, on the band's signal, runs to collide with the other side.

In other words, moshing is the single most enjoyable bonding experience you could ever hope to have.

Hardcore dancing is gay. It's when stupid assholes ruin the pit by doing karate moves at invisible assailants. That's just a deathcore thing though.

Now that I think about it, that comment really pisses me off.

If it was Dying Fetus or something I wouldn't care, but this is Pestilence.
These guys have been making masterpieces longer than you've been alive.
You don't have to like the music, but at least show some respect to legends.
