To answer your question...

Weed is weed, basically. However, there are different potencies, and different strains that affect you differently. It doesn't matter where you get it from, however, the medical marijuana community is more standardized and informed when it comes to the actual differences between strains. They are also more likely to have THC-laced food, which isn't something that dealers are likely to carry.

Depending on your needs, the two types of cannabis you'll go for are either Indica or Sativa.

Indica is more of a body high. That's good for muscle pain, and other physical ailments, such as nerve pain--like with fibromyalgia.

Sativa is a head high. May be good for mental type issues. Regulating mood.

There are many strains that are Indica-Sativa hybrids. They usually fall in-between the effects of the two.

All THC is effective in combating certain types of cancer. As far as nausea goes, I'd say a hybrid strain is a good place to start.
