I will say that this single is AMAZING. It's not very lyrical but its a single. I truly think that Recovery has the potential to be the best rap album ever.

I feel the same way, and the rhymes aren't bad, he used good wordplay and metaphors in it, and em doesn't normally do that much wordplay/meta's in songs in general. Idk why everyones complaining, everyone wanted a single like this and then they complain :shakehead:

He should be apologizing for Encore, not Relapse

i seriously don't know what the fuck he's thinking when it comes to saying Relapse was bad & apologizing for it. it was a fucking good album. why would a sober Eminem release it if he didn't think it was good? has he been listening to popular opinion? so much for the line "I don't give a damn what you think" in the song.

the song isn't bad. but man... i'm expecting more from Recovery.

because he realize Relapse is ass and has no relay value? sorry but it takes mad courage for him to come out and admit that. Everyone loved Relapse when it was leaked, but then months later they realized it lacks a direction & replay value, Em is human and he feel the music the same like we do. Just because you like Relapse doesn't mean he has to like it too. He's DEFINITELY not in the same state of mind when he made Relapse, not in 'killer mode' anymore, that's why.

i hear what ur sayin, but relapse has tonnnnnnnn of replay value. Honestly, i think 'Hello' has more replay value than 'Not Afraid'. Now, i love 'Not Afraid' , but Hello is geniously written.

Maybe man, before I woulda laughed off a statement like this, but truthfully, the 1st single off Em's past albums have had ATLEAST 5 better songs on the album

If there are 5 better tracks than this on Recovery, I'm willing to call the album a modern classic :y: , call me a stan or whatever, but thats my honest opinion

I can see where your from dude, but I think Em has turned alot of heads by dropping a non commerical/celebraty bashing 1st single for the first time in years, as I said man, chances are this track won't be even in the top 5 off of Recovery, we'll just have to wait and see :b:

The beat is kind of plain, but it fits.
It's so non-standoutish that it feels like Em is carrying the track by virtue of his skill alone... and well.
It took me several listens to notice the subtle piano melodies in the 3rd verse too.
I think the beat has a charming subtlety that just works.
And the cascading synth just resonates with positivity.
The bridge is my favorite part. I can't believe the notes Em was hitting!
"You lied through your teeth/ so fuck your feelings (fillings)/ instead of getting crowned you're getting capped/"
Even for Em, I'm surprised at how incredible his wordplay is now.
I'm shocked and chagrined that he dismissed Relapse with an "ehh".
"Not Afraid" was a solemn promise to his fans, and more importantly, to himself.
He couldn't have done it better.
