Rage Against the Machine hip-hop covers

Postby Chilli » May 5th, '10, 23:46

In 2000, Rage Against the Machine released a cover album called Renegades, in which they cover artists like Cypress Hill and Eric B. and Rakim. I've grown up around people who loved it, but I'm not friends with many hip-hop lovers. I was wondering what the hip-hop community thinks of the hip-hop covers they perform. I've always thought Tom Morello would be one of the dopest hip-hop producers to ever exist if he decided to focus exclusively on it.

I can't stand RATM, and their covers are the worst to me.

Now... Audioslave with Tom Morello is amazing. I love RATM's music, but Zack's vocals are like chalkboards tearing a nail from its bed.

Have you heard the two songs Morello produced for Cypress Hill?

If not, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SegPKRzfKvw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=detVOuK8v-U

Of course. He is an unbelievable guitar player. Technically skilled, theoretically sound, and innovative with both song writing and effects pedal use. He made sounds with his guitar that I didn't think were possible.

Yeah, he's insane. He's like the lyrebird of guitarists, he can just imitate any instrument he wants with that thing.

I read this article a while back and it said he bought his whammy pedal something like two days before they started recording self-titled. How he learned to use it so effectively in two days blows my mind.
