THANK YOU. Finally someone who doesn't think I'm crazy for saying this...
I saw you defending Evil Deeds.
I knew you'd come around.
I do love how icy and minimalist Encore is.
Maybe it's the haunting chorus, the unique beat, or the way he made a song with hardly any of the words rhyming.

It's a rolled up fireball of subversion, wit, extreme self-expression, personal turmoil. A constant mesh of character hopping, persona-juggling, psychological probing, social commentary. He's not just 'bashing pop stars' okay, in that album he embodies an entire era, pokes fun at it, repulses it... I mean, there's so much going on. His sense of irony on that album is just sublime.
I actually consider The Eminem Show his best album but I can absolutely see why MMLP is as highly regarded as it is and perhaps maybe even should be held as his true magnum opus until he creates something more 'important'. I feel TES is a better album but MMLP is just such a powerhouse, such a single-visioned but totally skizo experience of lyrical genius.
Where as Encore was a mixed bag. It was him not knowing which part of himself should be the most dominant, trying to please everybody and ending up with an arrangement that looks more like a mixtape than an album formation. It has some high points and I consider it a good album overall but my goodness not even close to MMLP.
You're probably just slimsoxshady in disguise though, trying to start a 200 page debate and will end up going "haha another successful troll" with a little gay beer emoticon after about 50 pages.
I just can't vibe with most of the Marshall Mathers LP. The production was horrid.

Yeah, freedom of speech.
Then why did you try to change MY opinion with this:BrownyGee wrote:Hate all you want, but you know it's true MMLP sucks
???
You're just one of those dickheads who like attention.

Production was superb I thought.
Felt very cohesive throughout, really felt like a complete album and not 15 random beats / songs slapped together. Felt like a whole experience.
Doesn't work for me.
Don't know how anyone can think the production on "Kill You", "Stan", "The Way I Am", "Criminal" etc. was horrible.

He also deals with issues such as teenage suicide, obsession, censorship, violence in Detroit, the pressures of fame, America (and the world's) tendency to blame the faults of society on scapegoats and that's just off the top of my head.
Plus Stan and Kim are widely regarded as two of the most original (and powerful) musical concepts in history.
Encore doesn't have just as much bashing pop stars? At least on MMLP, most of the people he made fun of deserved it. You think the Christopher Reeve comments were justified?
The "hating faggots", I always took as an ironic stab at the church.
"My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head
whether you're a fag or lez
Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest
Pants or dress - hate fags? The answer's "yes"
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic
Staring at my jeans, watching my genitals bulging (Ooh!)
That's my motherfucking balls, you'd better let go of em
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of em
Hey, it's me, Versace
Whoops, somebody shot me!
And I was just checking the mail
Get it? Checking the 'male'?
How many records you expecting to sell
after your second LP sends you directly to jail?
C'mon!-- Relax guy, I like gay men
Right, Ken? Give me an amen (AAA-men!)
Please Lord, this boy needs Jesus
Heal this child, help us destroy these demons
Oh, and please send me a brand new car
And a prostitute while my wife's sick in the hospital"
Whether intentional or not, the placement of the preacher's lines right after his spiel about homosexuality always seemed like a clearly ironic juxtaposition to me. It's as if he's saying "The bible says homosexuality is unnatural to humanity and should be punished with death ["If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them" (Leviticus 20:13)], yet you paint me, a measly entertainer with no real power (compared to the millions who follow Christianity) as a criminal?"
Plus it points out the corruption in the church generally and how they spend their money.
And all that from part of ONE verse. But yeah, I s'pose songs about puppet dogs are way better.
I accept your opinion, but never undermine MMLP like that!

Um, actually he DOES talk about Christopher Reeve on MMLP. And like I said before read my description of this thread, I said IF Encore had We As Americans, Ricky Ticky Toc on here instead of Big Weenie, My First Single, and Ass Like That, then most people wouldn't hammer it so much.
