People who go on about him bashing gays on MMLP quite clearly do not understand irony. It's so fucking stupid to actually say he's gay bashing as if with no jest with this album.

He couldn't make it MORE obvious. I mean "The Way I Am" says it all. I AM WHATEVER YOU SAY I AM. Due to confusion / assumptions / accusations the first time round he's simply embodying any critcisms / accusations and BECOMING those things.

That's why he BECOMES a gay basher, he becomes vile, he becomes hate, he embodies all these things people were saying he was the first time round out due to the misunderstanding of art and he ramps it up ten fold. It's also ridiculous attaching all these things, ironic or not to him as an individual. It's like taking what a comedian says and printing that as his opinion. So he's supposed to provoke, supposed to push the envelope, supposed to be daring and original. That to me is what a true artist does.

If you're just safe and compromising then you're nothing. Being safe and watered down, it's just pointless. It's not fun to be part of the crowd. It's far cooler to be an outsider with everybody wanting to stand with you. And any great artist provokes this reaction. This is why to me, Drake, Wayne, people like this. They aren't great artists. Some people may like their music, find them catchy / enjoyable... Whatever. But artistically, they're not doing anything.

Because it didn't surface until 2002 and The Marshall Mathers LP was released 2000. So unless he could take that issue and go back in time to apply it, kind of difficult.

He was embodying everything popular culture / the media was misunderstanding him as after the first album, for that second album. He's continued to persona-juggle throughout his career but it was only truly the point of the SECOND album.

THAT is why. And he was embodying the things he was being misunderstood for at that time, not the desperate attempts to discredit his hip-hop credibility by a failed fucking loser (Benzino) years later. I don't need to be a mind reader to understand his art. He makes that pretty clear through his methods. He's also explained it crystal clear, it's obvious to anybody who gets it.
