The Recording Industry Association of America has announced that Spears has officially sold over 100 million records, making her the best selling artist of the 2000’s, according to Hollyscoop. In addition, she is the fifth overall artist to join the charts of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey who have also sold over 100 million albums.

Spears sold more than 28 million copies of her debut album, “Baby One More Time,” and has sold over 20 million copies with her second album, “Oops!… I Did It Again.”

Then again, I know Em's award was for being the best seller in America, so maybe Britney is worldwide, which would make sense.

Alittle confusing about the Worldwide stuff, Em outsold her by loads in the 3 biggest music markets last decade US, UK & Japan. But oh well She hasn't even had a #1 album in the UK.

Plus her debut album came out in like 98 so that 28mill shouldn't count.

Are you sure the number is legit? According to mediatraffic that represents the United World Chart Eminem was announced as the world's best selling artist of the decade. They counted it from the first day of 2000 to the last day of 2009- which makes ten years.

If Britney sold 28 and 20 millions with her first two and most successful albums, that makes 48 millions of records. No way she sold another 52 millions of records with her later CDs. Britney CD has sold around 12 million worldwide, In The Zone 10 millions, Blackout around 3 mill and Circus around 4.5 million worldwide.

Well, it says that "over 100 million" represents Britney's overall sales as opposed to just her sales post 2000. The site I linked calls her the best selling artist of the 2000s based on that, so maybe it's BS.
