I know blabbing about censorship on an Eminem board is preaching to the choir, but here goes my little rant anayways.
*clears throat*.
The United States of America was founded upon beliefs. Beliefs that made the country great- if taken to heart. The 1st amendment in the constitution, that we have built our country on, states- CLEARLY- that anybody in our blessed nation can speak their mind. That same document goes on to say that any person in the United States can print anything they like. That document made this country free. Free of boundaries. But it's not taken to heart. Today, organizations stand strong- organizations the sole purpose of which is to censor artwork, literature, and everything around us. Did you know you will receive a fine from the government for saying one of the following words on television- "fuck" "shit" "cunt" or "bitch" ? Our government is in breach of the Bill Of Rights. It is breaking its own laws. The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), though not a federal establishment, holds severe impact on the art of film, which yours truly is very much a part of. A film starring name actors and with a distribution budget will do 25% as well as it would with an MPAA rating of R or lower than it would with an NC-17 or with none at all. This causes works of art to be watered down until they are nothing but cheap lies and deceit. Now, freedom of speech and press is a scary concept to some. A great man once said "Freedom of speech doesn't protect speech that you like, freedom of speech protects speech that you hate". So, some try to improve freedom of speech to their own definition. They try to protect the speech they like and get rid of the speech they hate. Just as someone might hate the song "Kim", we might hate Rush Limbaugh's radio show. But he's aloud to go up there and talk for three hours a day- just like Eminem is allowed to make an album with some pretty edgy lyrics. However, on the track in question, this vile act of censorship takes place. Why can't Marshall Mathers have the line "8 year old boy laying dead with a slit throat" in his expression of emotion? Because it happens to offend the people in charge. And that is called dictatorship. It's hidden behind secret promises of democracy and freedom. We are not free. Not one of us has lived long enough to have been free. And unless someone takes action, we won't be free. Not in our lifetimes. Some good places to start are the films "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" and "The People VS. Larry Flint".
