if you read The Way I AM it shows his process which is basically random bars from random songs on notepads and when he wants to make a song he uses a few of them

He also has said a few times that he listens to the beat to decide what he wants to write about. I cant remember his exact words.

Yeah he hears the beat and decides what he can write about depending on the feel of the beat and then he scribbles down a rhyme anywhere on a piece of paper.

The paper he uses in 8 Mile were real which had lines from Lose Yourself, 8 Mile and Square Dance and said in his book that one of the film crew would have to pull the notepad from him to get his attention when they were about to shoot again. (Shows how focused Em is when writing a song)

The Way I Am shows plenty of lyric sheets from songs which are pretty interesting. He also had a backpack of years of rhymes that he had saved and used in some songs.

Needless to say, Em is different person when he writes a song. He goes into his own little world.

From what i can gather from The Way I Am, his style up to Marshall Mathers LP was to take random lines from paper for songs mostly, and then i think from The Eminem Show onward he would kind of write the whole song out while listening to the beat, with the page full of the verses and shit, so he could get the flow perfect and that.
