But not nearly as much as you need to hear this band.
Ugly Casanova is the side-project of Isaac Brock (of Modest Mouse), and he does not disappoint. While the first (and only) album was released in 2002, it still stands unchallenged (in my eyes) to this day. Blending styles of indie rock, funk, electronic bass, and folk, Brock becomes the Genre-Maker in the classic "Sharpen Your Teeth".

While the sounds of Modest Mouse do ring through, Ugly Casanova is distinctly different than anything Isaac had done up to that point in 2002. It's a solid album, seemingly put together with more care than any of the Modest Mouse projects--an impressive feat considering that this was a side-gig.
I was extremely pleased to hear that Ugly Casanova has made a return on the 180 South OST, with 8 new songs. While practically all of the original members are gone, it's no secret that any band with a vocalist and writer like Isaac Brock need no one but the front man to keep a consistent sound.

From delirious cheer to brooding sentimentality, this album touches the full spectrum of a surreal existence that's peppered with drug use and whiskey binge drinking. Confused happiness and the crushing realities of a life that seems in constant flux are accurately portrayed in a way that only Isaac Brock can--insane, ranting, shouts written by a mad man fueled by an ever-present awareness of the indescribable.
