^ lol people would still care if he died in his hiatus years. No one knew about when he almost died because there was no reason to publically announce it.
Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?

^ I meant the "public" people, the masses, not his core fans. In his hiatus years he's like disappeared from the face of the earth, he's not in the spotlight so most don't care/know him. Think about it, if he didn't come back the his career could be counted as 5 years, really doesn't sound impressive as 10 years

Could say the same for Michael Jackson. I think you're underestimating what he accomplished before his hiatus, because I'm pretty sure it would have been enough to resurface his popularity in death. People would start "remembering" and you'd have your typical dick-riding "new fans" coming out too.

MJ is a legend, that's like a fact no one can deny, he also influenced the whole pop cultures and has everyone looked up to him when he died. It's obvious you can't say the same about Em, I know he was massive (best selling artist of last decade) but he was not in a legend-status (I remember MTV was making a best rapper list and he barely made top 10, but if they did one right now he could be #1)

I wasn't saying Em was ever in the same scope of fame as MJ, but using it as an example of how "dropping off the face of the Earth" doesn't equate to not being a big deal when you go out. Em's death WOULD be a major topic of public interest had it happened during his hiatus. You don't get as big as he was in the MMLP and TES eras and have people not care when you die. Fuck, it's not like he was gone for a decade either. His last major album was in 2004, and people wouldn't if he'd died in the years in between that and 2009? Maybe 14 year-olds wouldn't care, but...

And I don't know why you're putting stock into MTV/VH1 type "lists" anyway, but okay. According to VH1, Em even now isn't in the same league as Biggie/Pac/Jay-Z.

because MTV list is based on popularity while VHI made their own list?
and I really don't think it would be a that big of deal if he died during his hiatus, especially if it's because of drugs overdose cuz ppl probably saw that coming

No one would have cared? LOL.

People cared when fucking Brittany Murphy, David Carradine, Ed McMahon etc. died. Eminem is 10x as famous as any of them. Even during his hiatus years he was still already the most successful rapper ever. Of course it would have been big news.

And on the drugs, no one really had a clue why he disappeared until Relapse came out and he admitted the truth.

Are you actaully serious?

Most didn't know him during his hiarus? Pretty much EVERYONE I know knew who Eminem was during his hiatus years - and that's in the UK. Do you know how big he was during 1999-2002? People wouldn't just forget that in a few years.

Seriously, Alaine, that is a ridiculous statement.
