Are you actaully serious?

Most didn't know him during his hiarus? Pretty much EVERYONE I know knew who Eminem was during his hiatus years - and that's in the UK. Do you know how big he was during 1999-2002? People wouldn't just forget that in a few years.

Seriously, Alaine, that is a ridiculous statement.

yes serious.
I didn't say people don't know who he is. Pretty sure ppl at age 15+ should all know his name at least. But they wouldn't care that much like when he was in the spotlight.

Eminem was massive during 1999-2002. And I don't even mean his record sales. I mean that he was in the public consciousness. Why do you think politicians, the media, etc. were going on and on about him and how dangerous he supposedly was for the youth? They were scared of him and his influence. Very few artists have that sort of effect.

And IMO that's also why he is big again. People just seemed to wait for him to get his shit together. Hell, even Relapse, as inaccessible as it was, sold very, very well. I remember that he came out here at about the same time as Britney and all the boy bands and how much he stood out. Everybody was like "WTF is THAT?!?" and then all the music channels played him and he sold like crazy.

If Em died 5 years ago, or now, it don`t matter, he would be in all the news all over the world. And he would instantly become the biggest rapper ever, even for those who don`t think he already is.

What on earth are you talking about? This is Eminem... the highest selling artist of the decade.

Nobody knew he nearly died because it was covered up. You know that whole pneumonia thing?

Honestly, that's just as retarded as saying "nobody would give a shit if John Lennon died after The Beatles broke up."

doubt it. Take Heath Ledger for example, his death was a big deal because of The Dark Knight, if he didn't have a movie out right then & stole the movie people would still feel sorry for him yes, but it wouldn't be half of the big deal. Or Brittany Murphy, if she died while 8 Mile was at the theater it would be a much bigger deal than last year, where she didn't do anything major for a while. It's the relevance thing, hard to explain.
And you can't compare John lennon, MJ.. to Em 4 years ago, they are legends and most people work in showbiz respect them, Em never got that much respect. In fact he actually got praised more now by his peers & new comers since he's completed his recovery and made an comeback, the way he acts now got more people respect him as an artist too since he's mature & stuff.

Nobody said Eminem has ever had the same status as John Lennon and Michael Jackson. But he is obviously 1000000 times closer to theirs than Heath Ledger and Brittany Murphy are to Eminem's.

that was not my point when bringing up Health Ledger & Britany :confusion: was just simply saying that when you have big stuff out (new successful movie, new successful album..) people would automatically care & make a big deal out of your death than when you're in an irrelevant place doing nothing.

Yes but the point is irrelevant because Eminem was so much bigger than them.
