Top 5-10 for me
At his best, he's as good as anybody, but Encore hurts his career badly, no other rapper in my top 10 released an album as bad as that - actually I doubt any rapper in my top 100 released an album as bad as that

Still MMLP & SSLP put him up there
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

If you died before you posted ^^, I would say you are the greatest poster ever on TRShady. Haha, just joaking, no hard feelings. :D
Yeah, sadly, but I think Em won`t get the praise he deserves untill he kicks the bucket.

He is without a doubt the most talented ever. In my eyes, he needs 1 or 2 more classic albums to grab the top spot and solidify himself as the greatest.

The Encore album is not gonna take much away from him. I think most people focus on his good albums rather than his bad one(s). I always search for an artists best albums on the Internet and listen to them.

LL Cool J has released a bunch of mediocre albums (not comparing them to Encore) but I think most people will use the Mama said knock you out and Radio albums as a way to justify him amongst the best ever.

As a mainstream artist, the airplay is also very important. Jay-Z has just released a shitty album but 2 of the singles were lyrically great* and got a great reception from fans and critics alike which leads people to think that he is on top of his game.

No matter what, it is still only your own opinion that counts. Even knowledgeable people of the hip hop genre won't recognize Eminem as one of the best ever solely because he is mainstream.

*Death of autotune, Empire state of mind.

Encore was a great album except for the joke songs. Mockingbird and Like toy soldiers are much respected songs so no, I don't agree. I think we should be more worried about Relapse anyway.

He's the best, for me.

OutKast's run from Southernplayalastic in 1994 to Stankonia in 2000 is the only run by a hip-hop act that gets close to Eminem from 1997 to 2002. He was unstoppable back then.

Of course, you'll have the idiotic "hip-hop heads" who wont like him soley becuase he's mainstrean, which is pure ignorance, then the even more idiotic people who protested over his music in 2000 and thinks he's nothing more than swearing on the mic and take some of his work way too seriously.

The funniest complaint that gets put Em's way is "He only raps about a few things, his mom and his daughter, yo!!!1" when in truth his covered more topic than ANY rapper ever.

Raekwon spent his career rapping about drugs, Rakim about rapping, Nas about the street life. Yet people then put these rappers ahead of Em based on that complaint. It's ridiculous. I'm not saying Nas, Rakim & Raekwon are bad, I love all 3, just a point I'm making.

Eminem IS the best rapper ever. If you don't agree then fuck you, you know nothing about real music.
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

PetaParker wrote:I'm gonna keep it real with you. Eminem isn't even top 10. And it's all because of his catalog. Songs like

Crack A Bottle
My Band
We made you
Just Lose it
Bagpipes from baghdad
Racist tapes
Constant pop star references

These are not the songs of a top 10 rapper. Pac, Jay, Big, Nas, LL, Rakim, KRs, Ice Cube, and a couple others all have better catalogs that stood the test of time.

It's his own fault. He sold out and became a pop star. Like Irv GOtti said, Em could've took a beat like Hard Knock life and it would still be a hit. But he decided to do things that can only work for him. Dude's catalog is horrible. Not to mention between 2003-2009, he really didn't do shit.

lol@ you putting Jay in that list.He sold out more then Eminem, and Jay has some whack songs :n:
Jays last albums sucks

I know it sounds cliche but 2Pac is the greatest ever for me. Eminem is a better rapper, skill-wise. But, if we look at influence and discography then 2Pac's got him beat. Me Against The World I regard as the best hip-hop album of all time and The Don Killuminati is a classic too.

so....

1. 2Pac
2. Eminem
3. Jay-Z
4. Biggie
5. Nas
