I honestly think he should have just had Relapse and Relapse 2 all packaged into a double album.
It's worked perfectly with classics like "All Eyez On Me" and "Life After Death" so why not Relapse?

I think he should have went in a direction similar to this in 2009:
Released a double album of Relapse and Relapse 2 and then released Refill later on in the year then a Recovery in 2010.
I have no problem with Recovery but I just don't think he FULLY Relapsed for a Recovery (If that makes any sense lol.)

Amadeo wrote:We might have gotten one or two more concept songs (like we did with My Mom and Deja Vu on Relapse), but would it be worth the other 13 random serial killer tracks we would have got?

It would have been exactly the same album as Relapse. Just by looking at Refill, we probably would have gotten an entire album of serial killer/random tracks.

Mind you, there's nothing wrong with putting out an album of that... but putting out the same product twice is lame.

I don't think it would have been EXACTLY the same but it would have definitely followed the same formula (except maybe minus the corny lead single.)
I'm honestly a huge fan of the horrorcore genre so that's why I really wanted the Relapse 2 album.

I wish. :(

Wishful thinking but remember this?

I'm not so sure relapse 2 would have had the accent.

look how relapse ended. And alc did say that insult to injury was supposed to pick up where Underground left off AND it was in his normal voice.

Recovery made him relevant again. It brought him some critical praise. Yes, it has radio friendly songs. Yes, some of it sounds forced. But IMO the album is essential for his career. He's not perceived as a has been anymore.

And yes, Relapse was good, but the accents were annoying. The serial killer content was getting old. And releasing a second album with more of the same, when the first one wasn't received very well and/or ignored, would have been counterproductive. I just don't believe that he would have had enough strong material for a second album of that kind. IMO he didn't have quite enough for the first one.

Of course, he needs to find new topics, deal with his voic/flow/delivery etc., and can't repeat Recovery either. But this sudden backlash here against that album is IMO more of a temper tantrum because of the recent uneven features/shouting excesses/occasional bad lyricism.

I loved Relapse the first time, but it already felt like it's too dark. I'm definitely not for a sequel.

I still don't get why he said he was going back to slim shady; SSLP was never a dark album.

I heard Relapse 2 yesterday. It's crazy :shifty:
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I agree, Em prides himself of having a different feel to each album.

Also, if Refill is the best from R2 then I'm not that fussed - the only good song on Refill was Music Box.

There's no proof in this whatsoever.

Em made R1 and R2 at the same time. There's a chance they could have been made for R2 but I think they were just odd songs he decided to record and they ended up being the first Recovery tracks.
