Relapse or Recovery

Postby shadyboymez » Nov 27th, '10, 06:51

With somebody creating the Eminem Show vs MMLP poll, i was curious on peoples opinion between these two. I choose Relapse, by a very small margin.

I don't know, it's very hard for me to compare the two.

When I try, in my head... It's very close. But they both have such different content and sounds and give me such different satisfactions...

I mean, instinctively I might say Relapse, when I think back to it - I really enjoyed that album when it came, i loved it and I still do. But then, I like Recovery a lot also. It's not the same kind of buzz but then, like I've said before - I think the best of Recovery are steps into a promising new direction.

But ultimately, I think they're too different to me. It's like comparing movies in different genres. I can compare SSLP and MMLP or TES and Encore more easily as they're like paired albums. They aim for similar things creatively (in their respective pairs) and sort of tie together.

But Relapse and Recovery have such different aims and sound so different... Just leaves me unstuck trying to compare them or say which is better. I like both though and they're both really good albums that I think will age well due to the dedication he put into them.

I think almost anything he produced in his comeback 'newness' (first 1-2 years) would of had similar stigma simply due to the unrealistic expectations and of course... Most people not getting what 'they' want lmao. Because everybody has their own idea on how he should return and sound, when of course... he's his own person too so is probably going to be thinking in different worlds to you and you as everybody else.

Not to say some of the criticism isn't valid. But I think as time goes on, Relapse and Recovery will both be looked at differently by most. It was really stupid and uneeded of him to denounce Relapse on Recovery though. It was like desperation, like he was SO paranoid he may of alienated some of his fans that he practically begged for them back in that way.

Such a pointless and stupid move, even if he genuinely did change direction on his own accord and think that of Relapse, there's no need to commit that to record. Which is UNCHANGEABLE forever lmao. Because if his opinion can change so quickly on it in under a year, wtf makes him think it can't in another year? or five or ten?

And it also gives credence to people who were already calling it trash - Unjustly, as rather than the possibility of them revisiting or reconsidering it, those types of people are the ones who go "well if even HE is denouncing it, I was right" and then just accept it's trash and they're so fickle and easily swayed in their perceived 'rock solid' / 'meaningful' opinions that they won't even bother to question it lmao. Bizarrely, people who even, slightly obviously LIKED Relapse started to half-pretend they didn't as if they were 'wrong' for liking it, just because he said that. So stupid.

It depends what you like.

People who like eminem's deeper music would say recovery.

People who like slim shady and funny stuff would say relapse.

Recovery's replay value alone makes this an easy choice, I don't even wanna go into why this album is amazing, let alone better than relapse.

But relapse as a concept album, whether it be the serial killing theme, em returning to the game, about drugs, his relpase, whatever it is it's great for what it was, but not as good as recovery :sweating:

Moving to shady reviews :y:

The horror theme of Relapse is more artistic than the usual "entertainment"-theme of Recovery (which is a couple of serious songs, funny songs, sad songs etc.).

There's nothing on Recovery that touches the story telling of Insane, 3 a.m., Stay wide awake, Deja Vu and Same song & dance. The production on Relapse is also much better (more coherent), although I find Recovery slightly more catching musically.

I don't know; I like both albums a lot for different reasons.

Recovery, 100%. There is no question about it for me.

Relapse is immature, corny, has stupid dumb "accents", lacks replay value, and is embarrassing to be caught listening to. Not an album a 38 year old man should be making IMO. It's just horrible. There are maybe 3 or 4 tracks I like, but thats about it.

Recovery isn't amazing, but it's a good solid album and a massive step in the right direction.
