OMFG that would be amazing! Redman and Eminem have incredible chemistry.
would absolutely love to see that happen.

wtf was that other shit on that website about joell ortiz signing to def jam though?
would he be able to sign with def jam as a solo artist if the slaughterhouse deal goes through?
if yes then good for him.

Why do you say that, Alaine? Is it because Redman isn't exactly...as popular as he once was or...what do you think?

because he won't make money for the label, simple as that. Interscope is a major label, when they put out albums they expect to gain money back.

(also, before people start ranting "Who cares about the money, we only want music", give me a break, major labels are all about money, it's BUSINESS, not charity, and you guys wonder why Young Money is the top hip-hop label while no one knows Shady? )

Look at Kanye. Did he sign Mos Def so Mos could sell 400-500k first week, or because Mos Def is a great rapper?

Redman will be a great signing to Shady Records.

If Em does not sign him, Kanye will.
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

That's reality. Sure, WE as fans don't care about money, but record labels LOVE money. Money is everything, money is what makes the world go round

Why do you care about how well the label does financially? As a fan it should be music before money.

Redman will sell a lot of records. He is a great rapper and if they put some catchy beats and guest verses from big rappers such as Eminem on the album, it is going to be something that a lot of people buy.

I don't see why it is less of a risk compared to signing a new artist? Redman already has a big fanbase, he just needs some people to promote his name so the mainstream will get to know him. At Shady Records he will be sourrounded by such people.

Also, I don't think it's like they are going to sign him instead of someone else.

it's business, if they signed him and he didn't sell, he'd get dropped (look@ Obie Trice), same thing I thought about SH.
I care about the label obviously because of Eminem, he said he wanted to "rebuild" the label, if so he should sign young artists that buzzing and can hold down the label in future, not old rappers that only has few years of career left.

and cmon now "he just needs some people to promote his name so the mainstream will get to know him"? really? I'd probably agreed if redman is a young rapper with a full future ahead or something, but he's 40 and on the way out, it's pointless to promote. Mainstreams only like young people anyway, especially when it comes to rappers.

This is true

It's an amazing achievement that Em, who is approaching 40, has remained this popular after all this time. He definitely doesn't have the same impact he had 2000-2004, but as far as 2010 goes, Em is still extremely successful :y:

Blackout 2 sold over 100k in its 1st week last year with barely any promotion, no doubt that Red can still push big numbers, he's more marketable than any signing Em has made since 50 Cent
