He probably got pills from his family's medicine cabinents, friends' houses, etc. Smoked weed with friends. Stole/bought cheap booze. It's not hard or expensive to get what you want. I don't think he was real addicted, but he definitely was no Boyscout.

He JUST said in an interview that he didn't even drink beer until his early 20s...now, with an infant to take care of and his obsessive drive to get popular/make money rapping, he's going to waste time and money on drugs?

No Way. He never got into hard drugs or drank very much until after the success on tour. This is stated numerous times, in his book actually.
