And, as for putting Recovery above Relapse. That's slightly difficult for me, I still can't decide which one I prefer and I'm pretty sure I enjoyed Relapse more at the time but...
When considering them as coherent albums, Relapse has those two fuckers "Crack a Bottle" and "Beautiful" which will forever ruin the memory of a nearly-perfect album to me.
Where as Recovery doesn't have a weak track. And I used to think it was incoherent with the production but actually, the more I listen to it - the more it all starts to gel and actually, all the production works as production for a single album. It's just not maybe structured as tightly and has no particular direction, but... it seems to all improve with time with it.
What do you have against Beautiful? Not trying to start something lol, just wanna know. If it was on a different CD would you have liked it better? It doesnt really fit the theme of Relapse at all so that might be why you dont like it as much.
People keep misunderstanding me everytime I say it.
It's not the song itself, as in the song being so terrible, it's a good song. Like I said and will say again - it's because the song (and CAB) was made for a DIFFERENT ALBUM.
It sounds nothing like the rest of the album and sticks the hell out. And therefore ruins it to me, totally trashes the cohrency when nearly everything else is perfect. But the reason it's so bad is because it sounds like it could of been on Curtain Call and...
It's a rock-fueled / sampled beat, produced by Eminem, with him rapping in sort of, "When I'm Gone" style about depression and his issues then literally everything else is produced by Dr. Dre, all gels, all sounds like it was from one session of song-making and all have the same higher pitched, clearer tricky flows.
It's like a totally random scene or, two scenes (CAB and Beautiful, though CAB fits it more) near the end of a movie. It would just wreck it. "Deja Vu" is a personal song too but it's the same production and style / rhyming style / flow so it totally works.
And I cannot see how Eminem himself couldn't see how bad "Beautiful" is just stuck on like that, it's awful. So annoying too just like one track, but ruins the album as a whole for me. Imagine... "I'm Shady" on The Eminem Show, in the place of say "Till I Collapse". That's what it feels like to me. It's a stark stark song contrast.
