See, I'd like to be signed but I'm not the type to give up my creativity for it. I mean, if I have to write only about God and stuff, I don't wanna do it. I'm going to contact the A&R tomorrow and see what's up with the guidelines to what I can and can't say, or if it's 'anything goes' so to speak.

Their offer is very generous, though.. They offer great exposure and it's win/win if I read it correctly.

Like it was said before, though, this means my music is good enough for labels to take interest in. My new music is 10x better than that song that I showed them, so I'm sure more would be interested.

I'm sorry but you made yourself sound very uneducated here man. Link me to a site where Catholic says they aren't Christians. Catholics are most likely the most devoted Christians there are. The Pope has come out time and again to denounce the VERY SMALL percentage of priests who actually molest people. Are all Priests molesters? Are all Arabs terrorists? Are all Protestants racist drunks? The answer to all of these is no.

you also got to think about your image AFTER your contract is met with this label. If you plan on trying to do anything else, your gonna be labeled as the "christian" rapper. Then when you gain "christian" fans and do "regular" music you'll lose those "christian" fans. And sort of vice versa. Also got to think of how new listeners will do research you and see you been signed to this "christian" label and already have a bias against you.

That's true. Maybe and I discussed this same situation not too long ago, ironically. I'd like to be something like Brother Ali; Not defined by a specific genre of hip hop, but still able to say what I want to say. He puts his religion into a lot of his songs but he's not a 'muslim rapper', feel me?

@Cosh: If you'd like to discuss theology, I'd gladly do it in PM. My father is a pastor. I grew up in and around the church. I know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that most Catholics claim they are not Christians. In fact, when signing up to certain websites, most list "catholic" and "christian" as different. Do I know that Catholics are Christians? Yes. (Well, for the most part. There's alot that they say/do that goes against the Bible.) But that doesn't deter from the fact that a large percentage of Catholics are ignorant to the fact that they are, infact, christian. They don't understand the fact that Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity.

And no, I didn't say "Every priest is a pedophile" Nor did Emady. I was pointing out that it's Catholic priests that have been charged with molestation. That's a fact.

This is true. They won't likely approve an album for distribution if it's edgy at all. There will definitely issues there. And as was said before, the fans you gain will most likely not stay with you if you change your content too much. It's good that you're thinking about it carefully.

You guys bring up very good points. All of which I've thought about, which is why I'm not sure whether to sign or not. I know they can just say, "We don't like that song selection. Write something new." And boom, I'd have to write a whole new album. Rhymesayers did that to Mac Lethal.

As for the stipulations; The only thing that was mentioned is not to use "unecessary" cussing or vulgarity. That's why I'd like to contact the A&R and see if it has to be about God.

after reading the last page of posts, I'm thinking maybe if it doesn't have to be about god specifically, but clean, you can do like motivational shit, spiritual also but in the sense of what makes you happy and what drives you, etc. I think, like I believe I said in an earlier post, that you'd be able to write what you want but you'd just have to be more creative in doing it. Like if you did a song about drugs for example, or whatever really, and just turn it into positive shit I think is what you'd have to do. idk either way the creative outlet the guidelines set might be a cool task and good challeneg for you as a writer and artist, but like chambers said about being labelled, that can only really have negatives for you, tho I think any label (and everyone gets labeled something) only makes you again want to prove those "labeling" you wrong.
