They burned me - one of the best street songs in a long time

I know there was a thread on this, but I think it needs another one.

My ipod shuffle brought this to my attention today again, and god damn it...it's one of my favourite all time songs. I can say I'm almost exclusively 'street' music, I love the raw edge that it has. Before this song, I think the last great street album was probably Raekwon's OB4CL2 from last year, and this song is better than any song on that album.

No hard beat, no weak metaphors, just pure raw music.

This and BISD gives me hope he can return to old Queens 50 cent, and not the Conneticut 50 he became. I really think he suffered hard without any guidance from his mentors after Massacre; JMJ (died), Eminem (drugs), Nas (beef) and Dr.Dre (disappeared).

Nas was his mentor.

50 cent used to tour with Nas when he was with JMJ. Nas took him under his wing and would always let him freestyle with Bravehearts. Nas said he wanted to sign 50 cent to Ill Will, but Columbia would have none of it because they already had 50 Cent and released him.

Check youtube. 50 Cent has a few songs with Nas, including one big one when he was just signed with Shady/Aftermath.

He didn't?
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Nas actually went in at 50 Cent first, for reasons only known to him. He did a show in 2003 at Central Park, he went in at 50 Cent with some insults.

50 Cent has had problems with almost every rapper out there, but it was easy to see that Nas was the only one who 50 actually didn't have any sort of problems with it, and it hurt him that his mentor dissed him.

50 said this a few years a go. When has he ever been this soft on a "enemy"? Never.

"It was later I started feeling different about him," 50 continued. "He's wishy-washy sometimes. We had our little differences, and we been saying little stuff to each other on record, but I don't have nobody trying to hurt Nas"

Which seriously goes to show how bad 50's advisers and aid were at that time. Eminem's disapperance really hurt him.

Imagine "You should be dead by now" and "They burned me" on the album instead of the poppy garbage tracks like "Amusement Park" or "Fire" on that album? I have no doubt that the little studio execs in 50's ear pushed him towards those garbage tracks instead of 2 genuine great tracks with street edge to them. Who knows how many more great songs like that are unreleased and were supposed to be on Curtis before they got shelved for garbage radio tracks.
