The reason that I would never put 'Recovery' above TES

Postby RainMan44 » Feb 2nd, '11, 08:43

Actually, this is the reason I would never put ANY Em album above TES:

Because of the classics in TES.

-White America
-Cleanin' Out My Closet
-Without Me
-Sing For The Moment
-Till I Collapse

These songs will NEVER be forgotten. They are classics. They will be forever imprinted in people's heads.

This is one of the things keeping me from putting Recovery above TES. (Besides TES being lyrically a little better.....or a lot.)

Also, I like the MMLP far more than TES. But if you were to do the same thing with the MMLP, you'd have

-Stan
-The Way I Am
-The Real Slim Shady

Again, I do think that the MMLP is better, at times, but I just find it hard to sometimes to place it above TES...or vice versa.
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

You can say that about almost every song on both MMLP & TES. Who places Recovery above TES anyways?

I do.. easily.

Having no "nostalgia" attached to TES also helps a lot.

Some idiots on this site, when they're asked "Best Em albums" or w.e, they might have Recovery above TES. It's quite sad.

What in the might fucking fuck? So a person is an idiot because they have a different taste, or are looking for something different than you?

talent, creativity, skill > nostalgia

I see all those things in Recovery in spades.

Almost Famous, Cinderella Man, On Fire, No Love... the list goes on and on.

True (add Cold Wind Blows too) but TES has more of that then Recovery, not taking anything away from Recovery just that TES is among his untouchable first 3.

No offense....but it's not about taste....Taste would be if you LIKED it better...I'm talking about people who think 'Recovery' is lyrically better than TES.
NOT whether or not they like/enjoy 'Recovery' more.

And yes, if somebody thinks 'Recovery' is lyrically better then TES, they're wrong IMO.

I don't know man about that man. I'd bet my balls that, had Recovery been released 8 years ago instead of TES (with chronologically doesn't make any sense but that's not the point), people would look at that album and call it the absolute shit. Fucking awesome. Masterpiece. But since Recovery is the new kid on the block and enough time hasn't passed, is not seen in the same way as past albums.

Again, that pretty much depends of your tastes and preferences. For example, I think a song like Almost Famous is lyrically better than anything on TES, and I'm trying to be as objective as possible. Then there's stuff like Going Through Changes, Cinderella Man, Spacebound, etc. that rival the best he has done.

I think that, too, at times. I HOPE that's the case.

Because when I look back on the SSLP, the MMLP, TES, AND EVEN RELAPSE...I get this sort of smile on my face...this happy feeling...It's like, "ahhh, remember the good old days when these were realesed?"

Seeing the song titles alone makes me remember the old times...maybe enough time hasn't passed yet, and 'Recovery' will do that soon. Hopefully.

To be honest, I think that phase may just be starting for me. I listen to "Recovery" now and I think "Lord, please let his next album be more like this, and NOT like his recent collaborations."

I really don't see much of a difference in Recovery and his recent collabs. Besides his Hello Good Morning & Celebrity verses which fucking sucked.

Yeah, time will definitely play a big factor in people's perception about the quality of an album like Recovery. I'm pretty sure than in a couple years folks will love it and appreciate it for what it is as much as anything he has done before.

I do see a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference. Most of the recent collabs and leaked stuff are just throwaway verses, or stuff that wasn't supposed to leak in the first place. All of the songs in Recovery in the other hand, had a meaning and a reason to exist. From Cold Wind Blows until Untitled, all of them felt like they helped to create a highly cohesive album.
