EminemBase wrote:^ Yes it does mean he's a sell-out.

Selling out = doing something you wouldn't normally do, if not for the money, or something in which the ultimate aim is the money, no passion, endorsing for cash.

If the money is the main incentive, it's selling-out. As it's a compromise for $$$

You're going to try and frame it and deny it, because it's Em. But as one of the longest, biggest fans of his, I can't deny logic. His music is still integral, but he's not.

Endorsing ice tea for millions, is selling-out. Ice tea has nothing to do with him, it's random, he did it for an easy pay day. Doesn't get much clearer, that is selling-out.

It's funny because he originally said he never gave a fuck about money. Well we can't really take anything he said 10 years ago seriously since hes changed as a person and pretty much went with everything he was against back then. He's just a hypocrite.

And I have plenty sense of business actually. But there's ways to conduct business, with Dr. Dre for example, he spent years on an extremely credible set of headphones and is now making a ton from those - that's business. If you're going to make money, as an artist and stay integral, do it involving your art in some way, as an expansion or extension of who you are.

yo, why bring dre in :( didn't he advertise for dr. pepper?

I dunno, somebody else brought Dre up, he's a good example.

Because some people say he's a sell-out for the headphones and it's a good example of what NOT selling out is. Those headphones are the opposite of selling out, they're totally integral.

He could of slapped his name on headphones COUGH 50 CENT COUGH and come out with tacky shit, but he actually worked side by side with engineers to try and move the sector forward, he actually cares about it. That's passion. And not at all comparable to what Em did.

It was a commercial.

If you think he sold out, fine, if you don't, fine.

Let's just enjoy it.

OR - If you don't want to join in the debate, don't.

Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to read every response.

Ignore it. But, let everyone fizzle themselves out. The only thing worse than people who analyze or argue all the time (yes I'm being ironic by including myself), is people who complain about the people who argue all the time. As if it helps or will stop it.

I don't care.

All my idols have done ads & commercials over the years. Hell, even Lupe has done a pepsi commercial & that guy loves to preach the good message.

I'm not complaining, I just think you guys are wasting your breath arguing over a 30 second commercial where Em says several times that he doesn't like to do commercials in.

I'm not wasting breath, my mouth remains shut as I type.

We're not gonna stop till we wanna stop, has trying to stop people ever seriously worked once? People will argue as long as they want / get bored themselves.

And, yeah that's just his ironic way of doing it but trying to get away with it lmao. Doesn't justify it. He's still DOING the commercial.

Someone with integrity and who is already a multi-millionaire, superstar music artist maybe?

How does it take away integrity? Its self promotion more than it is endorsement, when you see these adds you think Eminem not Ice Tea. Hell, whats wrong with endorsements? Its not like he hates the product and they are fun as fuck to do.

EminemBase wrote:@WilyMo021 - Well why even do it then.

Obviously it's about the money or why would he do it. Do you really think he loves Lipton Brisk THAT much lmao? Or was SO dying to do a 30 second pisstake.

There's so many ways he can exercise that, put out a fucking song, create something.

Look, the commercial was funny. But, taking millions of dollars - and Royce even said $1 million was way off, and if you think that's hard to believe, consider this...

Ricky Gervais got offered £1 million (about $1.8 mill) to do a beer ad, back when he was even less famous. SO if they offer Gervais, a British comedian who, is known in the US now but, come on, this is EMINEM... so if they offer Gervais that much, think how much EMINEM probably got.

So like I say, it was funny - but... taking millions of dollars to randomly endorse ice tea, for a chunk of change... is selling-out. Doesn't mean he's sold-out in his music, but I think less of him as a person now. And selling-out doesn't get much clearer in definition than what he did.

And anyone who can't admit that is in denial, because it's Eminem.

Selling out means he compromised for cash. In this case there was no compromise, he wrote the entire commercial, hell it counts as piece of his art. Taking your perspective, making albums is selling out because he gets huge profits from albums (Or putting shoutouts on his albums is selling out, and in the commercial he didnt even say the products name he just said DAMN, this IS goood).

He didnt lose any integrity from this commercial, he wasnt made to act like a clown on T.V., he himself decided what to do on T.V.
