One of my faves, well, aside from...
I'm twice as dreaded, evil and rancid.
Which is fucking funny. And I mean... internally funny like it makes me deeply smirk lmao. That's the pure vintage Shady attitude. Mean-spirited and self-depreciating. Calling himself trash / a weirdo etc. and using the word 'rancid' to describe himself, funny shit.
But anyway, this line is what I wanted to discuss...
Get my back right then I'm right back on you bastards.
That's a great line as it's pure wordplay. It's getting beyond puns for their own sake, it's not contrived, all linked from the prior lines and... it's just swapping the position of the same two words - reverse em and they mean two totally different things, in different contexts. So that was nice. Hopefully he can continue down that line of lyricism.
Side-note, I really like that style too, pretty much 'the Recovery style' but "Fly Away" in particular is a lot like "Cinderella Man" - it just sounds really precise and... loud. And I find the writing really potent. Beyond the odd questionable pun as people bring up (in regards to this style), it's really an empowering style. He's writing more like an adult, yet it still has this bad-ass cockiness to it, and it's precise and has these little poetic touches now and then like ("Cinderella Man"...
To coup de gra
Raise em high in the sky,
Keep em up
Time to bring the place alive
Also, on "Fly Away" on the 1st verse when he goes "It's PLAY-DOH, I ain't back to PLAY DOH (though)" - aside from the line, I like the little flow switch-up to emphasize the rhyming there. The switch from angry / growly to that kind of... clear, higher voice just to emphasize the odd words that rhyme. Should do that more often, sounds class.
