If he was able to do that AFTER doing all that shot-voiced yelling on Recovery, it suggests he still has the ability to sound good if he stops forcing shit to the point of hurting his vocal chords.

You also have to wonder if he makes it sound even worse with the studio process.

There are 2 types of "angry" voice, the relaxed one, and the energetic one. I'd love a balance between the two. Songs like On Fire and Cinderella Man do an amazing job at that. Stuff like INAD goes way over the top.

I think he was just trying to make Recovery sound significantly different from Relapse.

I do like the tone in this freestyle though and wouldn't mind an album of that.

He's yet to go two albums in a row with the same style though so it means almost certainly we'll have a new style next album anyway. And, every time I think there's no way he can sound different AGAIN and every time he surprises me.

I mean, to come from Encore with Relapse. Irrespective of what you think of the albums, I'm just talking about the styles... I never expected anything like that, totally blew me away. Then to go from... "Stay Wide Awake" to "Almost Famous" in the space of two albums...

It's crazy how much he can change his voice and often in subtle ways... it's not like he hasn't shouted before but it's just the mix of fast / flow, growl and lighter, just always sounds new. Can't wait to see what he sounds like next and what he does to achieve it.

PS. "Newsflash: I'm still trash" is funnier than almost any line on the album. Funny fucking line. That's the vintage of Shady. Self-deprecating and defiant. The mix of astute or just unique / particular phrasing or wording with petulant dismissal and cockiness. NEWSFLASH: I'm still trash That's what I want more of.
