Well, first off - As much as I hate 50, well not hate but think he's a shit rapper, but even so, he wasn't just successful because Em kept mentioning him. Nobody is THAT successful because somebody else put their name in their mouth, no matter who it is.
50 was hugely successful from those first singles, from the production of that album and from IMAGE. He was buzzing like fuck because he felt like a genuine gangster off the streets of New York, and the combination of that, with the gun wounds, the drug dealing and being signed with EMINEM and DR. DRE - all that combined, with melodic hooks and big records, is what made him huge.
As for Obie, Obie was very successful given what type of rapper he is. Obie was never going to be a rapper shifting millions upon millions, as what commercial angle does he have? Em is able to make music so catchy and deeply musical, that his foulness and anger is bypassed by musicality, people like to use the excuse he's white but it's because he can make insanely catchy music, simple as that.
So, given what type of rapper Obie is, he did very well there. He was just overshadowed by 50. Had 50 not been there, Obie may of done a little better but he still did fairly well and was by no means a failure on Shady.
As for Stat Quo and Bobby Creek, I'm thankful they had nothing put out as I think it would of severly damaged the image of the label, I think it would of been gang-banging, simplistic nonsense. And, I'm not ignorant to their intent, I looked into them and Bobby Creek recently - he's a genuine guy, he's not brainless, but he's an awful rapper. As is Stat Quo. They had no business being signed to Shady, it's ridiculous given the talent that's out there, that he'd sign such average nobodies.
I think Yela will surprise everybody and do VERY well commercially. Those not familiar with him or having just heard "Pop the Trunk" and thinking he's one-dimensional should go check out all his mixtapes. I did that and he definitely is not what I thought he is. I always thought he was good but was a little skeptical on the breadth of his talent, believe me, he's going to do some big things. He's said he wants to make 'arena rap' and I think he'll accomplish that. He has such deep influences of rock, grunge and... so many things, he can flip it in so many ways, I think he'll be like Em in changing styles constantly, and he has a knack for writing big hooks already.
I think it'll be a lot tougher to produce any significant success with Slaughterhouse but I think they'll produce classic material with Em regardless. But as to whether they can be successful commercially... I'm doubtful of that. But given Em's height of fame again recently, that might propel them into a much bigger spotlight by default... so we'll see.
Oh and as for Ca$his, as much as he goes on about being loyal to Em / Shady etc. I bet he's pissed off by now lmao. I mean... five fucking years. Em seriously takes the piss, I would be very pissed off if I was Ca$his by now. Five years? And I bet everybody makes assumptions and thinks he's rich but I'm sure he has to fend for himself in the meantime, why wouldn't he. Can't be easy. And then Em goes and signs two huge new acts and gets on the front of XXL with them? It's almost like he's just pushing Ca$his aside for them...
Which I have to say, Em seems to have a nasty habit of doing. It's like D12 said, when he fell out with Royce he focused on them. And now he has these new acts it's like he's further forgetting D12 and Ca$his. Ca$his is pretty awful but "Ms. Jenkins" made me change my perspective on him somewhat. That's a really chilling track / idea, and it's actually totally wasted on that EP. If he could continue writing in that sort of vein, I think he could have something.
As for whether Em will actually put these guys out... Well Yela is done with his album anyway, so outside of some finishing touches with Em I doubt too much will change, he's already very experienced, so I think he'll come out as planned. I think given Em's age (38) and the age of the guys in Slaughter and Yelawolf (31), and I think they're all in their 30s... And the fact Em is re-energized, I think they'll all actually come out. I can't see him going years with nothing happening again, given his age, seems like he's in a rush to fit a lot in now.
