Eminem does everything he can to please his fans.

I love the accent, I've never complained about Relapse, I actually listened to it front/back today. I never complained about Encore, I enjoyed it for what it was. I prefer him not to shout, but whatever. I thought Recovery was a great album.

However, Em is my favorite musician of all time, and one of the most talented. I hold him to higher standards than anyone else. The punchlines SUCK. Some are dope, but he's doing something anyone else can do. He can't compete in that category. He's good, but nothing really special.

I love "The Last Hit" and that line, it's obviously said sarcastically but so are most of his now. The only real difference is the style. The fact he's rapping them angrily / self-seriously in tone, as apposed to comedic and like a slap-happy cartoon.

And he used to sprinkle them then around a lot of other great lyricism where it's a bit constant now. But I definitely agree that if he said that now people would say "cringe".

Here is where you are wrong.

That line is hardly the greatest but here's why it's soo much better than the shit he's coming out with lately. Let's take that cushion line as an e.g. since someone posted it.

It works on it's own. Take away any wordplay/pun, it still works. It still makes sense. It still works in the context of the previous lines as well. Whereas...

Take away the actual wordplay it means fuck all. IT'S SO FORCED!! He's forcing a line ("suck my dick on the couch") to set himself up for the punchline. Without the wordplay, the line makes zero sense.

For wordplay to be good the line has to still make sense if the wordplay wasn't there. Take the line from The Last Hit, for example.

Seriously tired of people saying "People hate on new Eminem for the sake of it, if old Eminem did it no-one would complain". It's such bullshit, as I've just proved.

Then his fans got a bit upset when they heard Beautiful and Deja Vu. They wanted more emotional songs. More passion. They wanted him to stop using an accent.

So how would you go from an accent to faking / using a passionate voice? You would "yell" or "scream" and make it sound like you're trying.

He used his normal voice on Deja Vu with passionate content. Of course he can use it. He doesn't have to yell, it's a concious decision. Rock Bottom & Deja Vu are two great examples of using a normal voice and still convey great emotion.

Also, his 'yelling' in his prime sounded good. His 'yelling' now sounds horrible.
