Give him a concept, and he'll kill it.
That's why I think him starring in these new movies is nothing but good news. It puts him in a space where if he does music for the movies, it has to relate to the movie.
The songs he did for the 8 Mile Soundtrack were phenomenal. I consider Eminem a director, when there's a script for him, he's untouchable. That's why Marshall Mathers LP was so fucking great too. The script there was "Critics hate you, they think you're a homophobic misogynist. Now direct"....and he came up with that.
Now that his career is back, he really can't make another album talking about his life throughout it. Like he's recovered, what the fuck is the point in that?
Albums after an artist has completed their comeback with huge success is so difficult. I mean look at some of the best like Nas, after Stillmatic and Gods Son....what was there for Nas to do? Streets Disciple he tried a bit more of the same, and it was a good album but nowhere near a classic. So then Nas learned his lesson, and did a conceptual album with Hip Hop is Dead and N1gger. Eminem needs to do the same.
In terms of production, I hope he controls it. He should be involved in all of the beats, he should never let people send him beats, he should be there with them when it's made. Give Dre a few, give Just Blaze one or two, give Mr. Porter one or two. I'd suggest guys like Premo, RZA, Pete Rock or newcomers like Apollo Brown, Cardiak, S1 etc. but there's I'm trying to be realistic here.
In terms of features, I hope he keeps it in the family. That means Dre, 50, Royce, and maybe Banks, because I think Banks deserves a shot at an Em album, not since Royce has someone done as well head to head with Em. I'd love to say guys like Lupe Fiasco or Nas, but I know it won't happen.
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".
