Silent Hill 2 is probably the most finely crafted game ever made, in terms of story and ethos.
I saw a preview about the new one. Silent hill fell off but apparently this new one coming is meant to be a return to basics to create a next gen Silent hill 2. Could be good (Especially as i play games a lot rarer these days.
Silent Hill definately fell off. Team Silent, the team who made them, basically realised it had run its course after 4 (although technically SH4 was only turned into a Silent Hill game midway through development, hence why it was so different - probably a sign that they knew), and since then greedy bastards have kept it alive with a slew of shitty sequels which may have improved the graphics, but threw any meaning out of the window. The series was shipped off from the original Japanese Team Silent to an American production company; fucking says it all really. Don't even bring up the fucking film, that shit was an abomination which had such huge oversights as sticking Pyramid Head in it when he doesn't even fucking appear in that one. He's only relevant in Silent Hill 2! Fuckin stupid people.
With Akira Yamaoka gone it's definately gonna suffer, because that guy did pretty much all the music for the main four games (a fucking astounding feat especially when you consider the quality of the music). I once read a quote that his music may not be the most complexly composed, but it taps into human emotions perfectly.
The idea of a "next gen Silent Hill 2" does not bode well with me either. This series should be left alone,
especially #2. They're all good, but I cannot praise Silent Hill 2 enough. They wouldn't be able to recreate it, even if they had Team Silent helping them. People in the game industry have become idiots, spurred mainly by the fact that lots of the people who buy them are, and so get into the mindstate that graphics and shit is all that matters.
