First off, before I start, I want the mods to know that this is not a troll, albeit
this is not exactly personal opinion either (Some of it is). This is the opinions of many members on this forum (who wish to remain anonymous) that have asked me to sum into a topic and post for others to discuss. If you lock or move this, you are following a double standard and are biased as fuck, considering you let this thread stay:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=105854You let that thread stand in the main-section because it was praising Eminem and everyone agreed with it. This is actual discussion on the opposite end but in the same field. On behalf of MANY other members, we are begging you to let it stay.
In your response post to this thread, I want you to answer these questions
1.)Did you enjoy Recovery? If you didn't, why?
2.)Do you think Em has the best discography of all time, if not, who's do you think is better?
and finally
3.)Do you believe Eminem is the GOAT, why? If not, who do you think is better?Let
me start by saying Eminem is
my favorite artist, but
I know for a fact that he's not the greatest rapper alive, especially not at this moment in time. He is nowhere near where his peak was, and he has basically lost all credibility in the eyes of real rap fans for doing pop music with Rihanna and Lil' Wayne. He is lyrically "decent" now, but he is not the best out there. In every other aspect he pretty much sucks.
First
I'll explain why Em hasn't been good for a while:
First off, Call
me Bi-Polar, but frankly, relistening to Relapse and Recovery,
I've come to the conclusion that these albums are just alright, decent at best.
I'm not gonna lie and say it was a shitty album but that's not to say it didn't suffer from some serious problems.
Despite the good rhyming and good flow, Relapse' voice and delivery ruins the listenability of the entire album, not to mention the bland and simply uninteresting subject content. Some of the hooks flat out sucked too. He also looks like a child on the front cover. It was just a sub-par album altogether.
Recovery has many more problems than Relapse. The flow and lyricism is not as good, and the delivery is god awful. The production is retardedly generic-commercial and the feature line-up sucked dick.
I'm not even going to dip into why
I think most of the punchlines on that album were fucking garbage but Em should never attempt wordplay again. The only thing
I appreciate about the album is Em listening to his fans and giving them what they want, but to me, when
I looked at it from a further perspective,
I was looking at a sub par album covered in glitter. It has very few moments where his lyrical self shined but even then his flow/delivery was no where near it once was.
These 2 albums themselves keep Em from having anything close to an amazing discography but because
I know so many of you are too stupid to understand that
I will still explain it to you.
I know you blind Stans want to pretend that the latter half of Em's career didn't happen but we just can't. Encore was the worst album ever made by a good artist. Worse than Kingdom Come,. worse than 808s & Heartbreak, worse than Nastradamus, even worse than Pac's Life. Not to mention his first 2 albums have aged horribly. They are almost equivalent to Outkast's albums which also seem like inferior piles of shit in this day and age. The sound, the quality and the beats are all slowly becoming dated, not to say that the lyrics weren't there, because they were...Even though MMLP had its few wack moments in lyricism and alot of SSLP was corny as fuck...Cum On Everybody? Really?
First off 2002 was his peak as a rappers. He composed his masterpiece along with rap's pump-up anthem "Lose Yourself" (Albeit a tad overrated.). Unlike his first 2 albums, he was not just exploiting rap, trying to stir controversy, he was actually making music. This is where Marshall Mathers finally turned into a true artist, and of his first 4 albums, Eminem Show is easily the only one that
I would still bump in my car without being embarassed.
And here is why Eminem is supurbly overrated as a rapper: He was just not that good.
I mean he was, but not that good. The only thing he ever had was the ability to string words together but he would never able to pull off the wordplay of other great rappers such as Big L, Jay-Z, Celph Titled, Chino XL, etc. His wordplay now is just awful. Not to mention even when he was good his subject matter was somewhat monotonous. It was always introspection, he hardly ever thought outside of the box besides some tracks on MMLP. He was always swallowed in his own problems that it was just repetitive.
And
I didn't want to bring race into the subject, but
I think we all know how Em got as big as he did. He used these problems that the average white boy could relate to, exploited them, and the truth is it sold. That's why Em as a product works.
"And they connected to me too because I look like them" Because that's all he is, a product. A character. He isn't real. Well he is real, but he's real because he's fake.
I'm willing to bet if Em wasn't white he wouldn't have made it farther than a black rapper just as talented as him; Royce Da 5'9.
His voice also had alot to do with it.
On top of ALL OF THIS, lets not forget all of the shit talent that he signed: Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, Cashis, D12, etc.
Em is top 10, but he is not the greatest solo artist alive. I do know who is though, and if this topic gets to atleast page 10,
I will reveal who it is.
Here are artists that
I think are better than Eminem right now:
Tech N9ne
Hopsin
Slaughterhouse
Sadistik
Copywrite
Diabolic
Kanye West
Lowkey
MF Doom
K-OS
Zion I
One Be Lo
Mos Def
Possessed
Nas
Big Pun
J. Cole
Jay Z
2Pac
Biggie
pharoahe monch
Big L
Andre 3000
Black Thought
As
I said,
I will eventually reveal who is the best rapper alive. Now, until then, take this thread into consideration next time you listen to Eminem, discuss it, and answer the questions. I bid you a due.
