Kid Cudi | Discussion/Appreciation Thread

Yeah, so let's talk Kid Cudi. I think he's now my favorite "modern" hip-hop artist (or any artist for that matter). The reason why I like him so much it's because his work is unlike anything else in the medium. There are great rappers, but all of them borrow/share formulas established from artist before them. Cudi on the other hand single-handedly created his own weird, but awesome mixture of not quite full rapping, but not quite singing also.

His songs are powerful because they feel like an adventure from beginning to end, and they have a reason to exist. His 2 albums are definitely modern classics. Man on the Moon is an incredibly atmospheric and expertly produced concept album that's able to convey many different emotions, from sadness to happiness, to despair to hope. The Legend of Mr. Rager it's a sequel that dwells into darker themes and it expands upon the foundations of the first album.

So yeah, Kid Cudi rocks. Initially I remember seeing his name in a lot of places and I couldn't understand why people liked him so much. After convincing myself to listen to his music, I finally "got it", and from then it was awesome. Cudi is the incredibly talented and unique musician that Hip-Hop really needed. His mix of genres, smooth, laid back flow, deep content, and the orgasmic production that he gets has definitely cemented him as one of the best artist around.

Top Cudi songs that everyone should listen (and love):

- The Prayer
- Sky Might Fall
- Soundtrack 2 My Life
- Enter Galactic
- Hyyer
- REVOFEV
- These Worries
- Marijuana
- Maniac

Now discuss. :smoking:

I love Kid Cudi :worship:

His music is so uplifting, Heart of a Lion is the best inspirational song I've ever heard. But songs like Sky Might Fall, Marijuana, Scott Mescudi, Soundtrack 2 My Life and Mr. Rager so how musically gifted he is.

Yeah, I don't say this much about the newer artists, but dude is dope.

He would get love in any generation, but I just hope he doesn't overdo the alternative-ness of his music, because hip hop is his lane.

I like B.o.B a lot as well, and probably a little more than Cudi, but Cudi has done what Bobby Ray couldn't, and actually deliver on his albums. B.o.B's album was a letdown.

Couldn't agree more I hope he reconsiders his idea of a rock band and sticks to hip hop

I'd put Cudi in the "alternative/experimental hip hop" category. Some of his songs from mixtapes (A Kid Named Cudi), and stuff like Soundtrack 2 My Life are definitely Hip-Hopish.
---

I forgot to mention in the OP that another of the reasons why I love Cudi are his hooks. Seriously, dude puts out the most catchy, memorable and unique choruses nowadays. Pretty much all of them sound different from each other.

I'm interested to see what he does next. He's been saying that he's working on a rock type album, and he's no longer working with Plain Pat and Emile, which is a huge bummer, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

His most recent album was trash.

His first album was awesome. I couldn't stop listening to it when it first came out. Still love that shit. He puts so much emotion into every song.

Shit from a Kid named Cudi is sick too.
The Prayer
Embrace the Martian
Heaven At Night

are my top 3 from that mixtape

Given that, I don't really like his rap features. His features when he sings are straight, though.

He last album was amazing

It was more dark as compared to the first album being more light but it was still just as good musically, if not better.
