Are you proud of your country?

Postby yoshi » Apr 16th, '06, 19:06

I've read an article in newspaper and it was about being proud of ur own country. There was also a list and of course USA was 1st one lol :D Mine was like 27 or something..

I think it's because of what is happening today.. You know, politicians lying and taking bribes, buying themselves Maybach or Hummer, travelling while kids in the country don't have school books or even anything to eat sometimes.. It's sad and it makes ppl mad. But when I look on history of my country I feel proud (not always tho, but let's talk about good events :shifty: ).. When I think about XVIII century when Poland was divided between 3 other countries and didn't exist for like 123 yrs and ppl suffered and were sent to Siberia or about II World War, I feel proud of ppl who died for our freedom..

And what about you guys? I just want to know, cause I think it's the best place to ask this question..

A couple of years ago i would have answered 100% yes, but now my feelings about my country are more diverse - there's lots of things that i'm proud of, like our social security system ensuring that ppl don't have to live in the streets like in so many other countries, our attitudes towards e.g. gay and lesbians allowing them to marry n adopt (don't ever come to Denmark Asp, it might be contageous :p ), our great (and free!) educational system, our readiness to help other countries etc. etc.
But there's also plenty of things that i'm not proud of, like the way refugees and asylum seekers are treated, if they eventually manage to enter the country (we have very strict laws in that area), or the 2 stupid idiot newspaper editors who decided to publish the drawings of Muhammed, or my government's decision to join the US n UK in the war in Iraq although most of the Danish population were against etc.
But overall i still think Denmark is one of the best countries to live in in the world (unless your a refugee or asylum seeker), so yeah i'd have to say that i'm proud of my country.

Im proud of how putin helped improve the economical situation in our country and the fact that the economic crisis we had in 98 is done with. Although theres just too much coruption, too much mobsters with unlimited power.

I'm proud of wat my country is, its culture and its former aproach to eduction and morals.

Russian TV doesnt have censorship on the language but no one on TV uses cusses, it just doesnt seem apropriate.. even the movies they show are translated to clean version, if they make a rule to censor it, they'll only make it official.
