I think this is an area where a lot of rappers fall short.

Their flow game might be tight, and their spitting game might be hot, but they need to make sure they're also good at shock value.

That's why Eminem succeeded. That's why MMLP/SSLP were so good, because he was making fags angry and the dumb sluts got offended by his sexist comments. When I heard As The World Turns I was like "Dammmn that's good shock value."

Then Eminem made TES and he fell off, because he didn't make any songs with shock value.

Nowadays you hear terrible rappers like Lil Wayne who just don't have any good shock value. Maybe if Yelawolf called someone a n*gger and said "Jesus is a cunt" then we'd all go "Omg, he didn't just say what I think he did, did he?" And Yelawolf would become the new Mr Don't Give a Fuck and he'd be good.

Totally agree, in fact, TES was in every way a step down from the first two albums. For one, they definitely didn't, as you stated, have the shock value from the first two albums. Encore was better than TES to be honest, and this is completely from a subjective point of view: How many people were surprised when Em went after MJ? Think of the controversy it created.

Instead of just creating run of the mill rap albums with exceptional rhyming and creative concepts, he was able to surprise people.
