Greatest Video Games Of All Time

Postby Maybe » Jun 19th, '11, 21:14

I could easily bullshit my way through a list of games I've never played but are considered the best.

Instead, let's just list them from 50 until we reach number 1.

Ok, so number 50:

GTA III

This game clearly established an entire genre, and was a game-world defining experience.

Final Fantasy VII

It officially made J-RPG's huge in America. Great battle/magic system. Many great characters with different special moves. A stellar story with a awesome villian. It had a huge world to explore, side missions, and tons of fun mini games.

I put in 100 hours in a game made in 1997. It's a beautiful game.

Basically.

haha.

but if GTA defines sandbox games, and FFVII defines JRPGs (in no way am i disagreeing with this), then i believe Knights of the Old Republic (the first one) should be on this list for (in my opinion) defining the dialogue choices. As far as i know, it's the first game to actually successfully implement dialogue choices with realistic effects to what you choose to do. Morrowind had open world choices with consequences, but that was merely "i killed this guy so now i can't get his quest/am removed from the guild."

while we're on the subject, Morrowind put open world console RPGs on the map and did an amazing job with it at that, so that deserves a spot as well.

Morrowind on xbox didn't get the best reviews, but it was a amazing feat to have that game on a home console. There was nothing that grand on the PS2

True point, I was always shocked that they managed it...Morrowind always killed it as an openworld game.

I think that Neverwinter Nights deserves a spot here, although I may be biased; I used to be a proper nerd with D&D lol, and always thought NWN was the best video game representation.

PS2 can have it's hundreds of games in it's library, but not one of those games pushed the boundaries of gaming. they all stuck to the script, with the exception of the genre defining ones like GTAIII

as much as i don't want to admit it (and while Halo is a decent game, just overrated) but Halo is the reason why Xbox Live exploded like it did. and if we're talking about the impressions that curtain games left on the industry, then Halo (in all fairness) can be on the list.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Great strategy game, with a mixed story. Some blame the transtion, but I'm a fan of it. The church proving to be evil was a excellent twist for any atheist bastard. The huge choice of jobs, ability to invite monsters in your party, & special story related characters joining your party.

& who didn't love finding Cloud in the game.

Dear God, I remember that game. I poured SO many hours in to it. I'm pretty sure I still have it laying around somewhere.
