Yellow Brick Road

Love this song. Hadn't heard it in awhile before today I felt like listening to it. Thoughts on the song, storytelling, chorus, flow, and the beat?

We as Americans > Yellow Brick Road > Ricky Tic Toc > the rest of Encore (Yes, including Like Toy Soldiers and Mosh)
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

I enjoyed it a lot when it came out. It didn't have as much staying power over the years for me as his earlier work, but that's true for much of Encore.

I agree with this, except for Mosh, that was a great song too. Ricky Ticky Toc was great but nothing special. Mosh had more of an effect on me then RTT. RTT just talked about 50 mostly and his comparisons to Elvis, amongst other things, while Mosh took a page out of his political rant raps and delved more into that, then just material on comparisons with 50 Cent.

Nice hook and beat...2nd verse is rough though. I thought he would use that flow just for a bridge-ish thing and then go back to the previous verse style...it was awkward with that flow held for the whole 2nd verse.

"No matter what colour a girl is she's still a hoe" is classic, though.

The storytelling sounds kinda simplistic in nature. Good... at best.

I actually liked that flow, and the 3rd verse was amazing. Such introspect.

I've always loved it. It's almost like he just had a story to tell, and wrote it on the spot. No editing for any major rhyme schemes or anything like that. I mean, he was high as a motherfucker during the time, so he probably didn't care to, but I feel that for that reason -- it gives the song a feeling that none of his other songs do. But I also feel that this is why the track gets a lot of hate.

Frankly I think he should've gone with a bit more of a laid back voice during the verses.
